Greetings,

I just picked up this nice Vespa (GTS250 ie, 2006) and intermittently when making left turns/leaning left I hear what appears to be a metal on metal rubbing. It doesn't sound really harsh or make me thing something terrible is wrong but it's clearly there. Seems to be at almost any speed when it can happen.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Thanks,

Zach

Wow ... I never thought of that... Razz emoticon

Seriously though, turning left, it happens a lot I don't want to live with this forever, but if it's going to be a costly repair and/or make riding the bike dangerous I'd like to get it evaluated soon.

Any ideas?

rubbing
btw Rick wanted me to email you about a bike.. he sold his GT200..

anyway - look at the bike and see if there is any rub marks around the waterpump hoses or any metal to metal contact anywhere.

if not then you should be good. If you are going to have the bike serviced at a dealer, bring it to their attention and they can have a tech ride it around and see if they can replicate the problem to diagnose it..

hard one to figure out over the internets.

I don't know you Bosco, but the name Rick is familiar. I got his e-mail this morning. Thanks for passing the message on.

I ended up finding a really nice GTS250 in Redwood City for 3.75k. As long as the rubbing isn't an issue it's a great deal!

I'll have it serviced soon I guess.

Talk to ya later.

Solved!
Problem solved.

Took my scoot in to SF Scooter Centre in ... well, SF.

Turns out it was the clutch bell. There was apparently a metal ring pressed together between the two drums (im probably describing this terribly), but it was just held together with pressure as opposed to older designs which actually had them welded in.

SFSC replaced the entire clutch bell with one from a GTS 200. Problem solved.

I'm having this same problem now and first thought it might be due to a broken clutch spring.

The clutch bell itself looks like it's pretty much cast and welded solid.

Can anyone please clarify what the OP meant by the clutch part that was formerly 'pressed together' on early versions and later welded together on updated clutches?

Thanks.

I appreciate the bump, but what does the color have to do with anything?
