Hi have recently purchased an MP3 250. Problem is the seat wont lock! has anyone else experienced this problem? It makes a noise when I press the button on the key but looking at the locking a mechanism when I press it there isn't much movement. Not sure what is supposed to happen exactly but the black wire twitches slightly when i press the button and that's it.

Another thing, the manual says that if the steering lock is on, the handbrake shouldn't be able to move...but it does! any ideas???

Thanks

Mars

Drop the seat (gently) to lock it. The key only unlocks.

Have tried that. The latch seems to remain in the open position.

Hi Mate, Make sure your cable is seated correctly and also try using a silicone based lubricant.

Open up the seat and have a wee look, i am sure it's an easy fix Take a picture and let us help.

Cheers

Seat won't lock.
Hi,
This happend to me too. The seat hinge screws were loose and caused a latch misalignment when you closed the seat. Or maybe in production the seat was misaligned and the hinge screws were tightened in that condition.
Just realign until it locks then tighten the screws.

SORTED!!!

My problem wasn't the hinge, problem was the black thingy (in the second picture) had slipped out of place. You can see it has a groove on it that should be sitting a bit further foraward on the metal bit.

Thanks for the input all! (But does anyone have the parking brake problem???)...

Are you absolutely sure you're handlebars are locked?(You turned them ALL THE WAY to the left and THEN turned the key to lock position and removed it from the ignition)

Did you have the parking brake locked BEFORE you started the handlebar lock position. From my understanding, the lock feature for the parking brake is designed so that some ninny doesn't come by and decide to unlock your bike and roll it off somewhere. So when you say it can still move....
1. Are you saying it will lock?
2. Did you have it locked before turning your handlebars?

I have tried putting the parking brake on first and then the steering lock and have also tried the steering lock first then the parking brake (which shouldn't work as i understand).

With the steering lock engaged, the parking brake can still be locked unlocked which means I am definitely open to some ninny coming and rolling my bike off somewhere!

When you have your steering lock on you can still put the parking break on but you should not be able to unlock the parking brake.

It does not matter if you have the parking break on or of when you put the steering lock on

Seat won't lock
I had that problem with the seat, it just won't lock. I took it to the dealer and they readjusted the entire seat, the top half and the bottom half are not in line with each other so one of the halves is skewed. Just ask them to adjust it or you can do it yourself, you will notice screws at one of the ends when you open the seat up. Good luck!

Hi,

I am a new MP3 owner, and I have different problem, my seat will not unlock.

I had problems this morning locking the seat with my backpack in it, I checked to make sure that there were no straps or parts of the backpack that was in the way. I tried a number of times to lock it and it finally locked. But after I arrived at work, I can't unlock it. I can open my back trunk however, this never happend in the 3 weeks I have had it.

Does anyone know how to unlock my seat manually? I kept pressing the unlock button on my key however the seat will not lift up.

I am planning on calling the dealer, however I will not be able to get to them until this weekend.

Try pressing the seat and then push the unlock button.
If that does not work you can reach the seat lock inside from the trunk and unlock it manualy

You may not need to take it to dealer...

Scenario: I want to park the bike.

I have put the suspension on and the brake lever is Up.
I turn the front wheels completely to the left.
I turn the key to Lock position.
The wheels are locked to the left, HOWEVER, the wheels can be turned back to right some, BUT the handlebars can not and do not square up forward and certainly can not be moved to far right at all.

This is the normal thing....If your tires can be moved slightly to right after locking, but do not fully point forward or will go to the far right, your locking system is working.

Does this happen?

Cheers....jacq

Thanks Dutchman,

your advice totally worked, I pushed on the seat, hit the un-lock button, and my backpack was saved.

Cheers!

BTW nice colour on the MP3 was that custom?
