Modern Vespa

Some of you may have chatted back and forth with member MGG, Mike, in his years being on this forum. Mike is a top notch guy, always donwn for a ride. He had a GT and just loved to ride his Vespa. He had rode a motorcycle before having scoots...went from a cheap Chinese no name, to an ET, then to his GT.

Last month he got hit by someone making a left turn. This "someone" was uninsured, didn't even have a license, and wasn't in his own car. Luckily he was wearing a helmet because after he squeezed the brakes and went down, he slid under the car and his helmet kept the car from crunching his head.

Mike is ALIVE and well, he broke his foot I believe but doesn't ever think he'll ride a scooter again. Lets keep him in our thoughts and prayers, the roads will be lonely without him.

uninsured motorist insurance is a must... for ALL drivers/ scooterists/ etc.

That is just one of the reasons why I have full coverage on my scooters. We're not required to have insurance on our two-wheelers in Florida but I will happily pay the premiums... because of the other guy. Give your friend our best!!

Mike is fully covered, just not fully healed yet. I am hoping the Super 300 will get him back on the road.

Poor Mike. Hope he's back on a new scooter soon!

Sad to hear he got bit by the old 'left turner' - VERY glad to hear he had gear on that saved his melon!

I know I shouldn't, but I truly hope the 'genius' who was driving did at least a little time in jail......I truly hate that!

I got hit by a left-turner (also uninsured) six months ago. He turned into my left side at the last second as I was going through the intersection.

Anyway, he did a pretty good job of crushing my left foot, including shattering my heel. Yeah, painful!

I didn't think I would ride again either. But I took my healing and rehab easy and now am awaiting delivery on an MP3 400.

Getting back in the saddle is a personal thing, and whatever answer is right for you is the right decision.

thanks for all the replies, we are a strong community here. I don't know if Mike checks the site anymore but I will give this a few more days and then print off the thread and mail it to him.

Unthinking and inattentive people are everywhere. I am sorry that one has caused you so much pain. Take your time to heal up and then maybe think about rejoining the scoot community. Take care.
