I surely don't want to turn this into anything political, but in light of the economy, and some stocks being really low, is anyone jumping there? For example, I bought a bunch of shares of Ford stock at $1.99 a share. Do I drive a Ford? Nope but that is a really great price, and the potential for growth with some of the new hybrid technology they are working on is still there.

As long as they don't have to declare bankruptcy to survive, you might make a profit.

I sold all of my stocks a little over a year ago.................EXCEPT ONE (which my broker swore would go up, no matter what the economy did). Fortunately, I had only invested $15k in that one stock. As of Friday, it was worth 50% less. It's an energy stock (natural & propane gas pipeline delivery) so it will probably bounce back but it may take several years to get back to where it was. I just turned 60 so I don't plan on investing in the stock market, ever again.
That being said, there's probably already some real bargains to be had and more to come within the next few months but we're not going to gamble with our retirement money because I don't won't to go back to work if we lost a substantial amount of it. If I were in my early 50's or lower, I would probably be buying some good stocks that have lost a lot of value due to panic selling in the last couple of weeks.
I hope that nobody on here has taken a bath with this mess.

I'm hoping for a buy out, say, maybe Toyota.

Absolutely. I'm in it for the long haul.

There are some screamin' deals to be had right now-but not if you are new to the market, and haven't done your homework. The stock market is not about making a quick buck (although that can happen), or for the faint of heart.

Get professional advice.

I never invest in single stocks as I don't have access to those company books to see what trickery they've been into. At the end of the year, however, I usually contribute to my simple ira. Friday I just contributed max to said ira. Dollar cost averaging is your friend!

Just curious, do you do your own trading, or through a broker?

I'm a broker, and I'm buying stocks long, and using short ETFs to hedge my portfolios.

Not quite yet. I transferred my retirement funds out of stocks into inflation-linked bonds back in July. After the election, I'll be watching the market very closely. If a several-week trend emerges, then I'll transfer back to "Social Choice" stocks (a fund that invests in companies that don't trash the environment). For sure, a week or two after the inauguration, I'll transfer back, no matter what the general market does.
