Maybe he already has both, give the OP a break would you?
I don't know the answer to the question, perhaps someone with some actual knowledge can chime in and be helpful. To the OP: Welcome to MV |

Please you do not want to test my knowledge on Vespa. First he will need to buy a GTS 250 motor and change it out. Next he will have to pull out the harness which requires taking all the body work off and yes even dropping the gas tank. A new tank will need to be fitted why you ask, because the GT125 is a carb scooter and the GTS is a fuel injected and needs a fuel pump. He will also need a new speedo as the harness will not work with the non digital one. Also lets not forget the seat bucket and shock absorbers. I am making this a short and quick list, but in the long run after spending the money and time he could have sold the GT 125 and bought a used GTS 250 or a new one from the money spent ordering all the parts to convert his GT 125 to a GTS 250. Is that knowledge for ya or what! Sell your GT 125 and save your money for a GTS 250 or 300 new or used. Good luck

Also the only scoot he claims to own is a GT125.....if he did own another GTS 250 then why would he want to convert his GT125 scooter to a GTS 250.... Strange move and well not a smart comment.

Jon I think it's fair to say that while it's not necessarily how you would handle the situation that if someone wants to try it, just tell them what they'd need to do and be done with it. Don't need to save anyone anything. Anyway, last I saw a LEADER turned into a QUASAR was a Skipper turned in to a Skipper 250. All of the above were done. Ran Scooter Cannonball right next to me. |

A fool and his money soon part ways. My sound advice pick up a shop manual and parts book for both and look at the difference. Once you realize the time and parts involved you can make a choice to do all the work or just buy a GTS 250 to ride and be happy. If you want to do something different then figure out a way to hog a GTS 250 in a LX150. Or a 250 in a skipper!

thanks for all the advise!
thought as much< i'm no vespa guru but understand the difference between the carb and fuel injection engine. gonna stick with putting in a a GT200 engine into my GT 125, both carb and shouldn't require any mods eg fuel tank etc - what you think Jon? Was gonna do some tuning on my 125 but realise I can get an gt200 engine cheaper than trying the exhaust, variator, belt< torque driver etc............plus I'm sure it's a more reliable solution and my gt still stays registered as a 125 so better for resale (in the uk) and I don't need to take my next test! |

Its worth trying. You can do anything you want with your scooter, your money and your time. You must feel that the risk vs benefit is worth it. It may be as simple as a 50mm plate with some expertly positioned bolt holes - or it may require more. Look at what some of the custom car people do to make the ride they want. A Vespa scooter is just a piece of metal expertly crafted in to the shaped of a Vespa.
That would be really interesting to see your scoot with the gorgeous 250ie engine. Fuel tank, fuel pump, electrics - make it part of the project. Make what you want, the way you want it. See what this guy did to his Kawasaki - joined two engines together to make a V8 - why? Because he wanted to. That is the only reason you need. I saw this guy on Discovery Channel - Allan Millyard - he tells people that it was a Kawasaki prototype - what amazing modesty. references: http://www.classicmechanics.com/bissue/2003-10.htm http://www.fasterandfaster.net/2007_04_15_archive.html |
