I've noticed over the past month that the front brake lever (disc brake) has a greater travel distance before the brake engages. The brake still works fine. The brake fluid is topped up. Should I be concerned about this? Is it possible to tighten up the lever so that the brake engages sooner?

Re: Another Typhoon Question - front brake lever
I had a similar problem and it was fixed as part of my yearly check-up for almost nothing. As for fixing it yourself, I don't have a clue.
IMO, the brake level / mirror assembly has always been a little suspect on the Typhoon. The actual mirror rattles inside the plastic casing. On my old Typhoon, the mirror support arm would vibrate loose and begin to turn slightly. Also, the brake levers have substantial "travel" up and down, as if it's loose. Hey, it's a Typhoon, so I'm happy with the overall quality. Not the most expensive scoot on the block, but it's been reliable as heck. |

I'm looking at the parts manual and I wonder if you can have a look to see if I'm on the right track.....Where on this diagram is the adjustment? |

No 12 is the cable and at the bottom there's a bracket on the frame with 2 nuts to unlock then adjust then lock again , remove panel and all will be clear

D'oh, it's not the front brake but the rear brake lever that needs adjusting. I just assumed the scoot was like my bicycle: front left lever = front brake.
I see the adjustment screw, but fronkly it looks a bit oxidized and I'm guessing it won't be too easy to turn the nut! Could be wrong, as I haven't tried yet. Also, the brake squeals when it's cold. How do you check brake pad wear. It's difficult to visualize the pads. |

spray a bit of anti seize ( wd40 ) on the rear brake cable , leave for a bit and find 2 spanners to fit the nuts ( 10mm or 11mm ? ) , put a spanner on the end nut and loosen the inner nut a few turns then hold this in place and adjust the brake cable by doing up the end nut , it kind of has a half round and this fits the bar it go's through , adjust till the rear brake shoe's rubs when you turn the wheel by hand then slacken of a bit , then hold end nut in correct place with round fitting on bar and tighten inner nut up
the rear shoe's can sqeak abit ( dust in drum ) they last along time and can have a good clean up when you next have the rear wheel off for tire |

I just changed tires with my Typhoon, you will need a 22mm socket or a 15/16 will work...tried it....
Take off the exhaust, remove the plastic hub cap with a screwdriver, remove cotter pin, then that metal sleeve over the nut, then the nut, and remove wheel, to look at the rear brakes... I have 5400 miles on mine, and they looked like new, lot of meat still left on the brake pads, blew off the brake dust, before putting the tire back on.. Front pads need replacing before rear....and are much easier to get to.... |
