I got my GTS 250 warranty serviced about 300 miles ago and all the coolant appears to be gone when looking at the gauge... It seems like perhaps it never got filled. Thinking back, it started to get really hot once according to the temperature gauge 3 weeks ago when it was 97 f. (36-37 c.) and sitting in traffic. It got better when driving and I just forgot about it. I just checked the gauge and got my rude surprise.

Aside from fixing this immediately, how freaked out should I be? It hasn't been heating up beyond the middle of the temperature gauge on the dash.

The danger with low coolant is air pockets and overheating.

If you haven't been overheating, then there shouldn't be a problem. Try not to ride until you get the problem corrected, though.

Piaggio fills the coolant at the factory. All the mechanic does when they prep the scoot for you is check the colant level adn top it off if needed. I've done alot of dealer preps, and I've only ever had to top off the coolant once, on an MP3. All the other scoots were filled perfectly to the line.

What "gauge" are you talking about? The temperature gauge, or the fill lines on the coolant tank underneath the right access panel behind your legshield? The temperature gauge alone isn't gonna tell you if you have coolant or not...

Thanks. The warranty service was after 600 miles and not out the door. I'm talking about the coolant tank with the min/max lines. I took the cap off and see none in the tank. I'm not sure if there is any at all. A mechanic just told me (1) that there must be some in it or it would overheat and (2) the coolant might not be visible in the overflow (behind the legshield) but there might/must be some in there... Is that right? He also said that there are two possibilities regarding what coolant came in it from the factory. It is not overheating according to the temperature on the dash. Should I get the coolant changed? Add Dex cool coolant?
