I admit it. I put more miles on my scooter Between October and May than I do through the summer. Summer is just a drag riding wise for me.

On a little 45 degree jaunt on the way to work on Friday I just was thrilled at the fall colors, the fine air, and the dialing down of the thermometer. Thought I would share how nice the GTS looks early in the morning with the ferns turning orange.

You can see a few more pictures on my post RIDING IN COLD WEATHER

I know a lot of Pa is rural but please tell me that is a sidewalk and not a two lane road...

Nice pic, can't wait till we get like that...

Right now only thing I see going to work is dark and 1000's of eye's staring at me from the woods...

It's a road in the Rothrock State Forest. It's always fun to watch two Dodge RAM trucks passing each other.

Fall is definitely on the way. On the way to work this morning I passed about six fresh animal carcasses (mostly squirrels and possums) in the road that required a little swerving action to avoid them.

Those little woodland creatures go nuts this time of year getting ready for the winter, and now we have have the joy of deer rutting season just ahead

Tell me about it....then of course there's the elk and bears...and SKUNKS

You don't want to know what male elk do in rut to attract a mate....

Those trees are beautiful. Wish we had trees here. We make do with a few Aspen.

MVers take some great photos. I love your photo in the park.

It was 42 degrees this morning according to my GTS. Brrrrrrrrrr. I have not found a FF helmet that is actually comfortable. My little brother always did say I was a knot-head, perhaps that proves it. The $500+ Shoei was fine but hey, $500??? The Nolan hurts my forehead, the AGV was just weird feeling, the HJC feels like it is 2" too short all the way around and pushes my cheeks so much I look like a trout. A Zox FF helmet fit ok, but the salesman at the Harley store said his started to vibrate after a while. So I used my HJC open face helmet. Brrrrrrr.

I was looking for my ski bibs yesterday and came to the conclusion that I gave them away last fall when we were downsizing and moving. I can not believe I did that. I have a warm armored jacket and my gloves were ok, but my cheeks and upper legs were FREEZING.

Good thing the ride home will be in the high 70's.

Now, where are those bibs?

Beautiful. Autumn (= Fall Razz emoticon ) and Winter are my favourite seasons... the crisp air, the amazing scenery, and being tucked away all warm and cosy in my thermal-lined waterproof riding gear. Ahhh romance...

We are in the mountains, and earlier in the week we were wearing shorts. It was something like 30 degrees below normal, so I was being just a little facetious! It was snowing like it was January. I hope this was a preview of things to come. Snow is fun unless you have to drive in it.

ha! I went out to Bear Meadows this Saturday! Lovely roads -- until they turn into washboards and spiky rocks.

Still, it has been some lovely riding weather here in Central PA.

They usually don't get bad until spring after the snow, water and ice work on them. I ride up past Bear Meadows, over the mountain to Alan Seeger Natural Area and then on towards Lewistown or Huntingdon depending on mood. The Vespa putts along nicely even on the worst roads. Though on another thread I am beginning to wonder about putting a rock through my oil pan...

It was 37 in the morning last week...I need to get some overpants still! I'm a bicycle rider, so I thought I would try some of my bicycle leg warmers under my jeans. It worked pretty well for my 20 mile ride. So did my warm bike gloves, that was probably close to the limit for those though. "Over"pants would be easier though, but it got the job done.

High 30s, low 40s in the morning--still pleasant enough for my 37 mile ride to work.

Low to high 60s in the afternoon driving home--perfect. On the way home I detour a bit through the Arcadia State Forest--twisty roads, beautiful scenery.

When it gets painful, I'll stop. So far, I have to admit I'm enjoying October a lot.

Those are some great pictures. Fall is the one time of the year I miss from when I lived in Maryland (maybe Spring when the Dogwoods would first bloom). But my blood is too thin, my wife is knitting me a scarf for those mornings when it's in the 60s.

The worst thing is that I used to always think that I wanted to move up north where there's a fall, winter and spring. Then I spent last "spring" in Massachusetts. As miserable as it is here during the 'mid-year' summer, I can now say I've been officially cured of wanting to move north.

I like to tell people that we have 4 seasons here
Mud season
Ice season
Mud season
Variable weather the rest of the time.

If winter was only 2 weeks long I would enjoy Fall a lot more.
