So I finally bought a tall windscreen for my GTS250. I was tired of being cold in the morning. I got the Faco tall windscreen from scooterworks.com

I am very happy with it. The screen does not act like a "sail" as I have read in previous discussions, except in speeds in excess of 75MPH. Here are my pros and cons...

PROS - (1) rode in 40 degree temps and was warm as can be (2) much quieter, I accually heard my motor at 60mph! (3) I can now ride without glasses or goggles (4) It does not look nearly as goofy as I imagined, I kind of like the look. (5) There is a higher top speed, and has less shimmy at higher speed. I had to keep checking my speedo to make sure I wasnt speeding too much.

CONS - (1) fitment around the headlamp is not ideal, it is a close fit and if the screen shifts it makes a horrible squeek, which in turn will wear through the paint. I have temporarily used some felt tape at the contact point, but will eventually file down the screen... (2) There is a whistle around 65MPH but it is not unbearable (3) The screen does not protect the hands that well as the picture suggests, my fingertips get cold easily.

I hope this helps anyone planning on purchasing a tall windsreen, I know it was difficult to finally pick mine.

I just put mine on my GT200 this weekend and I agree with your assessment. One thing you might check is to see that you left about a 1/4 inch gap all around between the headlight and the windscreen. That might take care of the sound it makes at 65mph. It's weird hearing your engine all the time isn't it?

Would you consider cutting it down?? I also have a tall shield and love the protection, but do not like the glare, especially at night. I wonder what it would be like if I cut just enough off to be able to look over it and not through it?? Any comments or suggestions would be welcomed.Thanks.

I have the same screen and agree with your comments.

A couple of solutions; you can raise the screen so that it's slightly above the light opening and won't rub.

Also, I notice the whistle was coming as air came off the side of the windshield and ran over the back edge of the rearview mirrors. If you place something to disrupt the airflow over that back smooth surface of the mirrors you will stop the whistle.

Last thing; I got a nice pair of winter leather gloves that I keep in the pet carrier and put on when the temp gets below 70 degrees. They really keep my hands warm. Having a nice winter jacket helps for those cold morning rides to work too!

Hope this helps!

Here's some info on cutting one down:

How To: Cut Down a Windscreen

I don't have a windshield (yet), but I've been considering one.
Hope this helps.

I really like how quiet the ride is. It's totally another ride when you're doing anything over 50mph with the tall screen.

My suggestion to you is to make sure the expansion bolts are fully seated, and crank them down reeeal well. In my experience, they loosen up if you don't, and the whole windshield can slip out a little (or alot) and that's when you get significant rubbing between the windscreen and the headlamp. It's enough to mar the paint if you didn't catch it. I accidentally found mine totally loose as I was riding home once, and one side had popped out completely, and it had been riding on the headlamp all the way home, unbeknownst to me.

Can anyone post pics?

I'm thinking of making my own.

I don't really like the commercially available ones and
was thinking of (don't laugh) a kind of Harley 'cop' style one, you know, just
semi-circular at the top the width of the screen out of some heavy 1/4" (6mm) plexi, with a simple curve left to
right and a cutout for the headlamp.

It's the width I'm not sure about, the ones I see available kind of flare out
at the bottom to cover the grips, I was thinking of making the whole screen that wide and just going more or less straight up to eye level, or a little more.

So some pics, front on, would be really helpful.

TIA
