So, They aired the americanised version of Kath and Kym here on the weekend, and it has been panned to death - no-one, not even my dog seemed to have liked it (well at least 80% of us seem not to like it).

Heres a story on Our ABC.

What did you people think of it.

Have you seen the real Kath and Kim?

Is it better or worse that the American Version?

I thought I was DVR-ing it (recording) and I didn't catch it - the reviews have been pretty unfavorable so will not try and figure out why it didn't record.

Not true - 30 Rock is not to be missed (when is it coming back??)

I saw Kath and Kim and it was barely even mediocre. I'd rather watch the weather channel.

It looked like a bad, outdated sitcom. The characters had been made more mild and the US version of the suburban setting was a bit more hyper-real. Too polished to be properly crass.

Nothing compares to the original. It doesn't "translate" if you will.

The whole funny factor was the over the top Aussie "twang Factor" accent making it hilarious.

We'll see how the american version does. But i doubt it will do as well as the original...

It was the pilot .....cut it some slack.

As much as I cringe when we redo British comedy (Thank fucking god Rosanne didn't do shit with AbFab...Jennifer Saunders & Joanna Lumley would have exploded on the spot.)....I know it was Aussie....besides the point

I say give it a little time to work out the kinks...Because Molly Shannon is unbelievably funny when given room to work.....Selma Blair isn't bad either.

Plus John Michael Higgins always kills me in Christopher Guest movies...

If it sucks after awhile?....Oh well then it sucks...

But I think the Office has worked out quite well.....Plus I want Molly Shannon to have steady work....

Should do a reality show on scooter clubs. Maybe I can convince a relative to do a a coming of age idiot teen show and have them ride scooters. If the fans don't like a character they can kill them off by having some idiot cager run it to them.
I liked Selma Blair burning things up in Hellboy.

We get the original version in the UK, albeit about 2 years later than aired in Australia.

I first saw it on vacation in Sidney and loved it. Very funny show, although I reckon it's about run its course by season 4.

Yeah the last season sucked. A year's break might solve the problem. Also the cashed up bogan economy has shifted so there might be some new things to comment on.

Love the show, don't see how it would work in the US.

I'd comment further but it would offend both Aussies and Yanks.

There are a lot of good shows on American TV these days, bopth on cable (Mad Men, Dexter, Californication, Entourage) and on the old nets (Pushing Daisies, The Office, 30 Rock, Life). I must admit that my favorite show these days is Skins on BBC America.

In fact, a lot of people think we're in a new TV renaissance thanks to cable freeing shows from the need to attract tens of millions of viewers and hue advertising dollars to succeed. I'm inclined to agree with this, and think that (new season aside) the quality of shows on the broadcast nets is much better than just a few years ago.

I do some freelancing as a TV critic and industry reporter/commentator and have to say that this year represented the worst batch of new shows in years. The few new shows that showed any promise whatsoever (Fringe in particular) have already faltered. Life on Mars, another translation of a BBC show, looked like one that could make the leap but has yet to win me over.

The strike is partially responsible for the fall crapfest, but it goes deeper then that. The networks are trying to figure out how to continue to make money. That's one reason they're going with so many foreign shows (The Ex-List is based on an Israeli series, there's also a version of Gavin & Stacy in the works and many more to come)-they're sinking less money into pilots and development and trying to go with concepts that have proven themselves elsewhere. Sometimes it works (The Office), often it doesn't (Coupling, the unaired IT Crowd pilot from last year, Kath & Kim).

I've seen 3 episodes of Kath & Kim and it doesn't get any better. I don't think it works and the reason is the writing more than anything else. The characters are horribly inconsistent, at times complete idiots and at other times prone to miraculous moments of insight and lucidity. Admittedly, I've never liked Molly Shannon and have a hard time buying Selma Blair as being that dumb.

I have an incredibly hard time trying to believe that Selma Blair is supposed to be Molly Shannons (characters) daughter. Isn't their age difference around 5 years?

Either nobody else would take the part of the daughter or nobody else could play it. Which one?

Over-hyped! I didn't think it was very funny...

I thought that How I Met Your Mother would get weak but it's still holding strong as one of my favorite sitcoms.

Selma Blair was born in 1972 and Molly Shannon in 1964. Maybe all the rBGH in the milk caused Molly Shannon to hit puberty early?

I was worried it wouldn't last longer than a season because a lot of the jokes go over my friend's heads. I am definitely glad to see it continue. It would be better if it was an hour long. The first show was the best of all with the sperm bank scene.

Selma Blair has always seemed to play way younger than her age.

I have always dug Molly Shannon.......she is a fucking nut
My wife grew up with her husband Fritz......which surprised the shit out of us when he married her.
Good call I say....

I hope it gets better so she can pay the bills.....

That Big Bang is a fave of my wife's....but it is so formulaic & boring...I wanted to like it...but it is right next to that other winner "How I met your Mother".....ehhh...
Love Jason Segal.....but they are boring.

Little Britain USA has been a winner for us lately....Waiting for Flight of The Conchords to come back.

Office,30 Rock, Earl,Sarah Silverman........ all winners....

"The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman" needs to come back soon to....that shit is funny
