read it a couple of weeks ago, basically the 300 has better accelertaion, but the 250 is a little better round town. The impression I got from the write up is don't bother changing your 250 for a 300, but if you have netiher then go for the 300

I'd love to see the actual acceleration numbers and then test ride both scooters back to back.

The impression I got from the write up is don't bother changing your 250 for a 300, but if you have netiher then go for the 300 A summary. 300's top speed is a couple of miles an hour over the top speed of the GTV (300 without the GTV's flyscreen!) Away from standstill the 300 out accelerates the 250. Also out accelerates the 250 in rolling starts at 30, 40, 50 and 60. In town no real advantage as the 250 would catch up.... (eventually - but so would a 50cc!). Firmer 300 suspension leads to better handling, especially at speed. Much firmer. Much better tyres. MPG the same, except when the 250 was trying to keep up with the 300 at high speed work, when the 250 was LESS economical. New converts should buy the 300, but 250 owners will not really benefit that much by upgrading... |

Thanks for the summary review.
I would definitely appreciate more acceleration on my gts, however if the 300 is not that much quicker than I'll pass. I wonder how the 300 stacks up against the Honda sh300. |

Was at the scooter dealer today (getting the GTV serviced) and they should be getting the 300's next spring - which gives me plenty of time to come up with a justification to have 4 scoots in the garage.

How much faster can it be? It's only 34cc's more in displacement so there can't be that much of a difference.
I REALLY like Vespa products but I think they dropped the ball by not making the 300 a REAL 300cc or 310cc scooter. Now, THAT would give it a noticeable kick in the pants over the GTS. Sorry, Vespa.....................but you won't be getting any of my $$$$$ for this mis-named 300. ((But we sure do like our GTS') |

sorry, minor hijack ... my lovely mechanic has just got a used 250ie into the shop, in need of some work. once it's up and running i've been asked to test drive it to make sure it's fit for sale. oh dear. if i can manage to push it up the ramp into my parking spot, it may have to be mine....
oh, right - the thread topic. well, here is one non-owner who is considering getting a 250 rather than a 300 |

So do the GTS 250 "Supers" in the states have the feel and suspension of the GTS 300'S?
They certainly have the Pirelli tires. |

Dougl65,
was it difficult to put that rack and backrest on your 300? Did you simply replace what came on the scott with a whole new kit? thanks |

Well I finally met the owner of the green 950 mile GT200 this evening and it all checks out. It has the original tyres, mot and tax and the exhaust hasn't turned from matt black to rusty brown. It's also had it's first 600 mile service stamped. It's had its starter system - from button to starter replaced under warranty and it all checks out under the seat. It still smells of a new engine which tells me it's all good.
There are a couple of small chips in the lower skirts but nothing that won't touch in. He even brought copies of the mot's and V5. It's looking good I must say. Billy-no-scoot. 2 questions how much for a fly screen and do all gt200's have thier mileage in kilometers ? |

Thanks Doug. I wanted to make sure it wasn't an nasty import.
What impressed me was the exhaust header wasn't even rusty like most of them are. I think a nice little fly screen would finish it off. I've got a couple of days to think about it and I'm looking for excuses not to. Can't find that many. Billy-no-scoot |

OK I give up... you guys believe what you want.
I agree. Vespa have released a 300 version of their Quasar engine that develops less power than their 250. Go figure. The thread that I quoted above has links to the Vespa Italy specs. 15.8 KW for the 300 21.5CV @ 7500 rpm 15.7 KW for the 250 21.3CV @ 8500 rpm |
