By now I am sure you have all heard that there is a new Apple laptop. For some of you this is going to feel like the second coming, for others you are sick of all of the Apple fanboys yelling about new products. Do you see an Apple MacBook in your future?

Holy Crap!
Today was such a poop storm I didn't even notice. Looks nice. Not sold on the Chicklet keyboard, but I'm off to the web site to check prices/configurations. |

hmm... at this stage and due to the "financial crisis" that has hit the world, not me.
Really, I have better things to spend my money on. I already have a 15" MacBook Pro in fetching aluminium (or whatever it is....?) works ok, no desire to upgrade at this stage. It's just me, I'm a bit fed up right now - not with Apple just with life stuff... |

I was waiting all weekend long for this release. Stunning!!
Just got my MacBook last month when all the dealers were having a clearance to make room for these new MacBooks, so I won't be upgrading anytime soon. I might pick up the new 24inch Apple display though |

I have been waiting for this event and boy am I disappointed. I was expecting a Netbook (10inch or less screen). I will keep using my reliable 2006 Macbook and no need to upgrade.

No thanks...I like the white keys better on my G4 iBook,
Besides...I still run OS 9 Classic. Now if only Apple made an OS 9 emulator. I've had my MBP for just under a year now. I am hoping to keep and use this one for longer than the average two years that I've kept my previous laptops. The new MBP's look great, but I'll probably just upgrade to a solidstate hard drive in the near future when they are bigger and less expensive.

I like everything about it but the way the keys are, like the MacBook. I prefer, the current keys on my MacBook Pro. Also, the first pic shows MacBook Pro, is that what this is, or is it a MacBook?

Nope ... I just bought a MacBook Pro 17" laptop about three months ago and I replaced my old G5 with a MacPro 3,1 with quad core, Intel Xeon as well.
I'm good for another two years until I upgrade again. |

I dig it. I like the black the keyboard -- easier to keep clean. I'm curious about the trackpad. Sounds interesting. I can't really find anything I don't like about it. Even the price is pretty similar to what I paid for my current machine 5 years ago. Same money, just more machine. Not a bad deal at all. Whenever mine croaks (old school 1.25 ghz PPC) I'll just replace it with whatever's current at the time.
I'm fortunate to work at jobs that provide the latest and greatest Mac-whatever workstation to work with, so I rarely feel the need the replace my personal machine. And really, I've been doing the same kind of work on Macs for over 15 years now and haven't had any compelling reasons along the way to make me need to immediately ditch whatever machine I was working on at the time because it was suddenly obsolete. I hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying this, but my 5 y.o. laptop (maybe older?) is still chugging along. It's not the fastest, but it does its job. I'd like to see how long I can keep it going. Besides, my wife has the awesome iMac if I need more power here at home. Now that I've tempted fate, I'll be sure to back it up before my trip to Tokyo next week. |

I voted no, just because they only updated the 15 inch macbook pro. When they can be bothered to do the 17", then they might have my cash.
I'm guessing that they left it off so they could have something to announce at the 'macworld' expo in January. P |

Unemployment isn't an issue or an event that will happen to me any time soon and I have the money to spend even with this economy in the state it is...
So I bought the new MacBook Pro minutes after it was available for purchase... |

I just got a new MacBook in January and 23 days later they updated them giving them an extra 40GB hard drive. They always do this to me.
I'm a diehard Mac user and ex-fanboy, I have to say that I have given up on them just about completely. I'll probably never own another PC again, but I also won't rush out to have the latest and greatest, either. On the MacBook? I have an old G4 PowerBook and I've never liked a keyboard on any computer as much as I like that one. I LOVE that keyboard. The new big square key-keyboard is horrible. If I didn't know better I'd say they are pandering to non-touch typists. I've been typing for 20 years and I've never made as many mistakes on a computer as I do that one. Dang it. |

the glossy displays advance
I will not buy anything that has a reflective glossy display. These are fine for the general consumer, but IMHO are not suitable for professional image editing or graphic design work.
But I suppose by the time my computer fries, these damn glass displays will probably be the only thing offered. And I will forced to conform to the prevailing ways. Sad. ⚠️ Last edited by baggs on UTC; edited 1 time

Work will take back my 15" macbook pro soon and give me one of these.
We lease all our machines, so we buy new stuff every 6 months, return the old stuff after 3 years, and the best stuff starts with the power-users and trickles its way down to the other folks. |
