OK so the Beast is down (its been a crazy few days, sometimes very scary, sometimes joyous but now frustrating) to cut a long story short a mate of mine cracked my lower headset, right at the column tightening bolt area, its split clean in two

can this be welded? is it a wise idea? do you have a spare lower headset i can have for nothing inc shipping? (ok the last one was a long shot)

cant provide images at the mo cos the bikes at his place while he figures out how to get the hydraulics for the brake off and the best way to remove the old headset.

BTW I LOVE the new vintage area.... yeah baby lets get dirty

I had a similar problem with the mirror mounting stalk, and it can be welded but as it's alloy this is not something carried out everywhere. To be honest I would consider getting a new headset base for safety's sake!

Man, at swap meets you can pick up the lower half of a P headset for pennies.

I don't have one ... but someone with more of a parts hoard than i would.

we dont really have swap meets over this side, just parts fairs and rallies (which are a bit thin on the ground at the mo, due to it beeing winter)

i can get hold of a few drum break heads for a few quid but disk versions are few and far between Crying or Very sad emoticon I guy i know only just sold a full drop headset for £30 a couple of weeks ago... that would have been cool 8) but i'm on the case with another guy from Scooterboy World who's got one for £25

if only Rupert (the guy who broke mine) wasn't such a great big eejut

You know Rupert?

Ask him how he's doing and to look out for cones filled with concrete.
