I have looked at the wiring diagram for a Rally 180, and it shows that there is one wire coming from the condenser, problem is there is a two wire condenser on the actual stator.

So I am wondering what the difference is between this,

and this,

Both are said to fit on the Rally (VSD), according to the Scooterworks site. My guess is that I just have the older style. I am mostly just wanting to know what the difference is. best guess, the 1 wire is tied to both the points and the coil through a common connection, the 2 wire achieves the same thing, but one goes to the coil, and the second goes to the coil.

i would highly recommend using whatever is currently on your stator. Wiring diagrams aren't always correct, and scooterworks' descriptions of what parts fit what bikes are OFTEN incorrect.

+1

I'm doing the same exact thing. I just had to order a 2 wire condenser for my 68 Sprint. Just remove the flywheel and take a look first.

There are different ways of wiring these up. Its your preference and you can use either condensor.

With the 1 wire condensor, the wire runs to the points, then another wire runs from the points to the junction box (where the wires are soldered to a small plate on the stator plate), then another wire out from the junction box.

With the 2 wire condensor, 1 wire runs to the points, then the 2nd wire can bypass the junction box and out to the bike. If the 2nd wire is soldered to the junction box, then you'll need the extra wire out to the bike, from the junction box.

Also, there are a few differences on some Euro spec bikes, so watch for that.

Same problem
searched google and got your post. Under my recent posting in not so modern (see pictures). I am trying to understand the same thing. I understand the two wires from the condenser (somewhat) - I want to know why the yellow wire tied to the "green" coil goes to the next coil. On my old stator this does not happen. Also, I only have a blue coil on my old staor. I switched back to the old stator and replaced the blue with a Scooter West yellow and blue coil and it does not "turn on the lights".

So, bad coil, wrong connections, or what?
