This four-line piece was in today's Metro section of the Washington Post.

I often wonder what causes an accident like this or how the victim was kitted out in terms of safety gear. The few lines give no details, although it sounds like no other vehicle was involved.

Quote:
Man Dies When His Scooter Hits Utility Pole

A Northeast Washington man was killed Monday when his Honda scooter crashed into a utility pole, police said yesterday. James Michael Hughes, 50, was killed in the 2000 block of Franklin Street NE police said.
In the paper the report said he "struck a curb and the pole".

I have to remind people to be really aware of road conditions. They're wet, the leaves make them really slippery, as water makes manhole covers slippery.

Be careful out there.

That's one block off of my commute. I wonder when in the day it happened?

+1 and paint stripes on the road and grass clippings can be slippery, too.

The piece in the Metro section said around 2pm, so not really in rush hour traffic I would have thought.

I forgot about paint stripes. On campus there are a lot of those REALLY BIG paint stripes at cross walks. Very slippery, indeed.
