So I've been on the prowl for a 1979 P200E (heard this is a good year, if if anyone thinkgs differently, please speak up), preferably near me, and ran accross this one on scoot.net.

They are asking $3,800. Is that a little steep? Seems a little high to me. Maybe I'm missing something. Is low mileage that big a deal?

This equates to around £1700 which in my 'umble opinion is way too much for that scoot. I know it's a 200 but looking at the condition of it I'd begrudge paying more than a grand for it!

Yeah, thats what I thought. This price seems way too high. Been seeing most stock P200 in the $2,000 - $2,500 range.

that's a grand over what i would consider my ceiling for a PERFECT example of a P200.

It's the fall, deals should abound, and prices should be low.

Try to find a P200 for sub $2000 prices.

Actually, it's more like £2,100. Or 2,600 Euro in our neighborhood.

I've seen similar and better 200's for 1,700 Euro ($2,300-2,400 US) and less.

I realize that Mass, USA is not Europe, but come on.

You 'umble opinion is spot on.

P.S. Perhaps this belongs on the Not-So-Modern dept.

Beautiful P. smokin' deal too. I can't believe that price. I'm no expert, but i don't suppose deals like that come along everyday.

Those BBQ racks, though not in production now, can be found pretty easily. They must have made a metric ass-ton of them. One goes up on scoot.net classifieds every couple weeks.

The better BBQ racks look the same but has a place underneath for a spare tire.

I had one of those on my second P and for a couple of years never knew the backrest slide forward.

Manny

Add: Shit thats what I was talking about, I think youve got one of those spare tire BBQ racks.

why rock a spare tire on the back when you've got one under your side cowl? Worried about blowing out 2 of them on a cross country ride or something?

Because I can. I have had two flats in one day. I have the Far spare tire rack on my rally. I love the way it looks.

Plus, if you have a spare spare and a buddy gets a flat and they dont have a spare or theyre spare is crap, you can help a brotha/sista out.

no, they don't, i got lucky. i got it from a good customer at work who probably paid the same price for it originally and didn't ride it much more so he sold it to me. a local man who has restored a bunch of bmw's that are at the barber museum did the restoration job. he's done some 10 or so vespa restorations over the years including a blue badge i wish to god i had the money for at the time. he always told me he did it for the love of it and not the money. it has some quirks, but all in all it's a great bike. unfortunately i goobered the paint job a little bit when i did something stupid the other day.

i got the bbq rack for $100 from a friend who didn't want it.

Be patient my friend. The market is changing. The black one I paid $3500. for in early July a good runner with upgraded shocks and disc brake. Drove from Sacramento to Seatle. The maroon one a few weeks ago for $2400. Shocks were uprades as well as exaust. I had to dump $680. into it to replace the shifting cross and 2nd & 3rd gears plus some misc. cable work. I drove to San Diego for that one.

As we got off the ferry in Patra, returning from Italy, we stopped at the local Vespa dealer to pick up some fiber oil plug washers. On the showroom floor was a beautiful PX200. I was ready to trade in my 150 on the spot, spend the night to do the registration transfer and ride it home. Was not for sale, but was shown as an example of their restoration work, a very common practice here.

Patently cruel!

I paid $1200 for a non-running yet cosmetically good 78 P.

Spent around $500 to get it running so yeah, $3800 is too much.

Although I love the rack and topcase on the original post $3800 P.
