We are visiting Boston on the occasion of my son's acting role in the play "Boleros for the disenchanted'', today's being the opening night at the Calderwould Pavillion. It's his first job as a professional.
The city is absolutely beautiful and the Bostonians so far very welcoming and polite.
There are lots of scooters around, specially small 50 cc Vespas. I have also seen quite a few kick-butt Cafe Racers around! It seems to be a very scooter friendly city with easy traffic and nice boulevards with open air cafes! Great!
Way to go Boston!!!

Welcome! and congrats on your son's role.

There are a fair number of scoots, but be glad you don't have to deal with a) Boston parking and b) Boston driving. Oh, yes, and c) Boston winters. But then there's all the other really good stuff - museums, orchestras, movies; Keith Jarrett and Joan Baez both in concert soon (but not together). And enough restaurants and framer's markets that you won't go hungry.

That cracks me up. I lived in Boston for almost 8 years (94-01) and back then "easy" and "nice" never collided in the same sentence as driving in Boston.

Glad to hear it's a better scene up there now.
(I love Boston, sister-in-law lives there, wife use to live there too, don't get back as often as we'd like)

I'm not sure it's improved any...

But it is a lovely place to drive for the European flavor if you avoid rush-hour snares.

I see that I must once again set the record straight about Boston driving.

It is really about style and elan. They took away our right to keep and bear guns but gave us the right to drive like maniacs.
The trick is knowing the rules. If you know the house rules it is not much more dangerous than say medieval warfare.

I hope this puts this silly myth to bed for good.

Ok ok this I think is true. I still think many folks from other locations would find the driving atrocious. But although I've had occasional close calls I've never been flatlined on my little 50cc here over the years, and I do find riding almost always purely enjoyable... probably, as you say, I've just learned the maniacal rules of the Boston roads
