So I have a brand new Buddy 125, love it, but I've always wanted a Vespa. I found a guy on Craigs List selling his 1006 LX 150 for $3200. It's got about 1200 miles and some pretty serious scratches on the front shield and above the tire. Just test drove it and I love it. You guys tell me. Good deal? Or should I keep my Buddy?

Don't get me wrong, I love Vespas. But, you have a brand new Buddy. Unless an AMAZING deal on a Vespa comes up, I'd say save your money and hold out for the exact perfect one you want. Unless you just have loads of money sitting around?

Well, this Vespa is only $100 more than I paid for my Buddy, and I have always wanted a Vespa. Not sure what the reliability is like, which is big deal since there is no warranty on it anymore.

I would wait for a better deal. Mileage is okay, body damage not for this price, in my opinion.

Wow you really think so? Ouch. I dunno if he'd come down that much. I have my hopes set so high! I really want this bad boy! I've had my Buddy listed since Sunday, and no significant bites. What's that about?

Put together a savings plan, wait till spring, sell the Buddy (great bikes by the way) add your saved money and buy a non damaged used or new Vespa. Patience is tough. P.S. I rarely follow my own advice. |

In my opinion, there are just too many bikes out there to settle for one with damage. These may be the "Ferrari" of scooters, but they are made in far greater numbers. As previously stated, unless it is a *screaming* deal (i.e., 2500-2700), there's no need to rush things.

Re: Opinions on buying a 2006 LX
I agree with others; this isn't a good price for this Vespa and certainly not worth swapping for a Buddy that's still under warranty.

I just talked to the Vespa salesgirl who sold him the Vespa a couple years ago, and she think that's with the topcase, the mileage, and the scratch (no significant body damage), $3k is fair. I'm so torn. I could wait till Spring, but I'll have a lot more miles on the Buddy then and won't be able to get as much for it. Decisions decisions....

This is really kind of one of those "well, what's it worth to you?" sort of things. If you can afford it and it's really something you covet, then it may be worthwhile and you can get your heart's desire. Consider also that your insurance may go up, as you'' be insuring a pricier vehicle with slightly higher CCs. FWIW, there's a midnight blue '06 in Birmingham that looks undamaged, comes with accessories and has 1100 miles, has been listed for about a month, and is priced at $3500. I suggest offering less and seeing where it goes from there. |

To give you an idea, my friend sold his 2006 LX 150 last year with about 6000km on it and in perfect condition with two helmets and a rain cover for $3200 CDN.

Thanks so much to everyone who has given me their advice. I think I'm going to keep my Buddy for sale and if and when I get an interested buyer then I'll see what's available.
Eric, ironically, the blue 150 you saw is the one I'm looking at. The picture and description don't hint to the damage, and it actually has over 1200 miles on it at this point. Seems sorta weird, but the guy selling it is pretty cool, so now that I've done some research I'm hoping I can talk him down a little more. Thanks again everyone! And please let me know if you have any other tips or advice! |
