i just saw what may be the creepiest thing i have ever experienced.

i live in the middle of nowhere wisconsin. about 10 minutes ago, DOZENS and DOZENS of army helicopters flew south over my house. i don't even know how many there were. 30 or 40 at least.

some were those huge 2 rotor kind like aviator47 has in his avatar, some were little fighter looking ones, but there PILES of them in one huge group going south.

i have never, ever before seen an army helicopter anywhere near here.

pemkt if you're reading this, go outside and ook up, they should be near you soon.

totally odd.

Sounds like an Army Aviation unit on its way back from training.... Either that, or they're just flying south for the winter.

My local stores still have Leinie's Oktoberfest.

I still kick myself for not stopping into the brewery when we drove by. We were on our way to "Rock Fest" in Cadott - 1996.

While we're digressing to beer, I just brewed a Double IPA over the weekend that stands to be in the 10% alcohol range. I can hear the yeast growling in my basement while it ferments.

the double rotor ones were huge. could have been an optical trick, but they looked like you could fit a school bus or 2 inside them. it's amazing we can make stuff like that.

Indeed. I was very intrigued by those kinds of things when I was younger. Never saw any though. I still like to watch shows like Fringe and Torchwood to get my creepy fix.

But if you want to really to be creeped out, go meet a true psychopath. They have this unique way of sizing up other human beings like they're a piece of meat. That had to be one of the most intensely revolting sensations I've ever had. A real life-changing event for me.

I've discussed this with a neighbor who is a mental health professional working in the prison system, and she assures me most people react the same way when they first encounter one of these...folks.

The first time was when I was almost mugged one night in downtown DC, and the second was when I met Slobodan Milosevic. I get goose bumps just thinking about both times, years later.

Really fun to be on the other end though. There's no sensation quite like doing a low level in a helo with the doors open. Imagine blasting down the road on a Vespa at 200mph, only with a better view.

AB-so-fucking-lutely! I got to go on a ride in college in a UH-60 Blackhawk with the AZ Air Nat'l Guard unit near Arizona State's campus. There were some DEA guys on board, and we flew way out into the desert to look for pot farms. On the way back, we flew "map of the earth" and doors-open - what a RUSH!

Yeah, and the thing is, you hear famous people bashing each other all the time, so you really don't know how much of it is just politics or competitive BS. But Slobo had that authentic jackal presence. I knew it within 5 seconds of stepping into the same room with him. It actually took longer with the mugger.

Hey, just caught this thread.

No, I didn't hear them fly over but then I've been in the classroom all day. The above poster is probably right -- something out of Ft. McCoy. Who knows maybe there was "civil unrest" up in Rice Lake (They're a rough bunch up there right )

Haven't you ever seen a convoy of dozens of Humvees and troop trucks clogging traffic on I-94 between Madison and Minneapolis on a Sunday morning? It's ridiculous. I've been stuck going through them at least a half dozen times.

Bell 47. First aircraft of any kind I ever flew in. They can be pretty frightening for kids - no visible means of support. A lot of helo pilots leared to fly in those, and still remember them fondly.

As a passenger, I like the Blackhawk and the Chinook best. Never got a ride in a gunship though. I imagine the view from the front seat of an Apache is pretty spectacular.

One time I got stuck on the wrong side of a funeral procession going down I-95 at rush hour. 12 miles long.

Haven't you ever seen a convoy of dozens of Humvees and troop trucks clogging traffic on I-94 between Madison and Minneapolis on a Sunday morning? It's ridiculous. I've been stuck going through them at least a half dozen times.
Yep, seems like every weekend they're out and about these days. I couple weeks ago we were coming back to Eau Claire from Milwaukee and we saw an open top Humvee with a manned .50cal on top followed by a camo cube truck followed by another Humvee with another manned .50cal on the roof. It really got us thinking: "What was in that middle truck".
