Excellent post, Jess.

There should be no reason for people trashing other members here.

Would like to see this segment broken up into 2 though: one for serious scooter issues, the other for everybody to BS. It would save many of us some precious time.

On a similar forum, they have 3 main categories: hardware, software and off-topic. Best I can tell, you have General Discussion, MP3 and Classifieds, plus a few others.

Can't, it's raining, my tires are bald and the shop doesn't have their new tire press to get the darn thing changed yet .
Saturday morning here, the start of Summer and the sun is shining.
I have genuine sympathy for you Dru.
Beaming some sunshine your way.
I officially hate you.

(my tires are good but it's cold, raining and summer is ending. Also it's still Friday here)

I don't know which is more pathetic, the fact that I'm bummed about not riding, or that the ONLY reason I'm not riding is the tires. The rain and temperature aren't enough to stop from riding.

This site is enormously valuable on so many levels...but one of the most important levels is that it provides a wealth of information for people that are either new or about to be new to scootering. The sales of scooters is skyrocketing and a lot of older people are getting them. This website saves lives and help the newcomers have a much more enjoyable experience.

I thank you Jess and all the other moderators for a job well done. I have learned a lot and asked a few questions and gotten wonderful feedback. If I had not felt comfortable with the community here, I would not asked my questions. I would probably not keep coming back either. I am glad it is moderated...there are plenty of other places on the internet to go be a jerk.

Anyone else find it interesting/amusing that a lot of the vitriol in this thread is coming from Lurkers or users with only barely double digit posts who joined recently (probably just to post in this thread)?

I am a noob but it appears howmodern a/k/a evermoremodern a/k/a yesterday's moniker etc etc is likely the main reason this thread was started. He gets banned and banned and banned but keeps signing back up and protesting. Need to find an IP address and block that it would seem.

Good observation, might be folks who where banned and that's their way of getting there 2 cents back here on MV? Lots of opinions that's for sure. I like the picture of the cartoon that was put up a few days ago of the person at a computer saying "hold on, someone's wrong on the internet". It's sorta like that, as there is no possible way to please everyone as we all have our own ideas on life, love, our pursuit of happiness, oh, and MV.

A sarcastic emotican would be helpful to have - since I seem to loose the sarcasm with the keyboard. -should we take a poll Razz emoticon

Most of it is actually just one guy: Randall, from [redacted], who has a personal beef with me and thought this would be a good opportunity to flog it.

Instead of offering cogent arguments, though, he just keeps re-posting the same rant over and over again as if repetition made it true.

I've removed most of his rants, since he is Officially Banned and not welcome here. It might be funny to put them all together in one thread, though, so that everyone can see for themselves who he is and the lengths he's willing to go to in order to "get back" at me.

No good deed shall go un-punished? Maybe so, but the majority of the respondents seem to say; "Thank You", as do I.

Thank you for all you do

It is in fact the same guy (Randall from [redacted]) who keeps registering new identities. I banned the IP address, but he's got a new one.

I wonder how many people from VN read this forum... hmmmm.

I could be wrong, but my impression is that the legit members from Vietnam usually spend most of their time in the Scooter Gallery

Jess, there is another forum I go to where a similar situation happened. In the FJRforum.com there was a seller named Motorcycle Larry who made parts specifically for the FJR. He got into it with the owner of the site and the owner banned his name so no one could ever use it or link to his site or you would be warned only once then banned. Maybe ScooterRS should fit into that catagory? You could also change the name so that when people type in ScooterRS is comes out dumdum? Razz emoticon Look at rule 10 LINK

i like to think that MV is very well moderated. I've had posted locked and at least 1 pulled, and justifiably so, even if it was M@ who pulled it

Anyway, yes, when I need to sling mud, I use Scooter BBS. That's sort of what I look at it as....a toilet-styled scooter board. My opinion, so be noted!

There was one post of mine that an MV moderator corrected the grammar on and PMed me about it, and that was frankly ridiculous and overbearing to me, but I moved past it because really, you can either be happy or right, and I wanted to be happy. It only happened once, so big deal. Otherwise, I've found the MV mods to be very open minded and VERY patient. the PM's you must have to weed through! Oy!

I know Jess gets a lot of heat, but if you read the boards, it's a few dissenting voices that antagonize everyone, usually for hostility's sake and sometimes a thinly veiled jealousy that Jess that the time and money to dedicate to the scooter hobby, and by that way, most anyone who has a modern scooter could be categorized as someone to hate on.
I'm a big fan of the "time-out" ban, and exercising the option of shutting down the site when things get out of hand. The forum is a 'guest house' and I know better to track mud into a home i don't own.
I would much rather have a heavy handed mod team in place than one that is too lax. It's proven effective to have the rules here that are in place. MV as a whole is indeed the strongest most supported scooter board around.

just my 2 cents.

actually, MJ, Jess was quite clear that he had in fact explained this point. Kindly go back and read what has been posted to confirm/deny that Jess was making a valid point and not, in fact being snarky. Bhuddist philosophy reffers to what is known as 'deep listening', which is when you listen, observe and hear what people are saying before replying to them. I think you may find this practice helpful before typing back a response in the future.

I think this amply demonstrates that there's a lot of room to misconstrue someone's intent when dealing in a text-only communication medium. I certainly didn't intend to be snarky, I was simply tired of repeating myself and said so. Likewise, MJ, I have observed a distinct tendency in your posts towards snarkiness and hostility, including ones right here in this thread.

So I guess I've learned something today.

Breathe, folks. Breathe in and consider the consequences before touching the keyboard. Don't let this thread spiral out of control.

The person who recommended this forum to me warned that once in a while members get out of line. However, it seems to be very well moderated. Put me in the camp that prefers that the mods actually moderate.

MV was critical in my decision to buy a scooter in the first place. I spent a great deal of time, prior to ever registering as a user, just researching and familiarizing myself with scooters, gear, maintenance issues, reliability, etc. The relatively accessible site and search functions meant that I could do this with a minimum of fuss. Without the mods, sifting through posts that get ugly would have been a pain in the ptootie.

Yes, I don't make any statements that I don't have an attitude. I think I have also pointed out on other threads that I like to talk shit. I deserve a certain amount of shit talking back. I can certainly take it. My post in this thread was in no way hostile or snarky and I don't feel like it deserved the response that it got. I know it's hard to read tone on message boards, I respect that. But my opinion is that you intended on responding to me in the way you did, but made it a point not to respond that way to others who also brought up the same point. Can you see where I'm getting this idea from?

I'm not going to end this post with some cutting remark like you expect and/or want me to. Feel free to post back cutting me down and telling me where I'm wrong, but I will always stick by my reasoning that you have issues with respect and authority. This will never change, I don't even think if I ever met you in person I could think otherwise.
