I have the same problem and I settled on a Scorpion EXO700. It's wayyyy less bobbly than my old Vega Summit II, and weighs quite a bit less too. It's been 3 or 4 months and I'm very happy with it.

the scorpion is a HOT helmet! I like that they have one in orange that would look smashing with my scoota. Do you have any problems with your shield fogging up? I've been riding with my Z1R on these brisk DC mornings and i can't quite get it to not fogg up.

Yes, of course, more $$ doesn't automatically mean a better helmet. But I hesitated only very briefly after finding the helmet that fit me best (Shoei RF-1000). No, it wasn't cheap. Then I remembered what I was putting in it and I quite happily paid the nice folks for it. |

I have a Sym-max II in an XS, which may mean the inside is XS, but the outside looks XXXXXXXXXL. I am well past bobble-head, especially when the chin guard is in the up position. Now having said that, once I got use to the feeling that my head was going to fall off if I bent in forward, I really like the helmet. Forget how bad it looks. It is pretty comfortable, very well ventilated, and with great visibility. I only wish it was a tiny bit snugger.
As far as the weight, I just look at it as part of my Vespa gym membership. It is my neck and upper back building exercise, like pushing the ET4 up hill in my driveway is my leg exercise. Now if I could remember to NOT turn my head when I am riding into a head wind, and quit snapping my head to the right or left when the wind hits it..... DEE |

Yea that's what I've been doing too -- flipping up the face shield at stops. Fortunately that really takes care of the problem. but it's just so much warmer when the shield is down!!

It's not just size but shape. Shoei and Arai for example fit differently, if your head is more round or oval. They are top of the line helmets with different shell sizes.
I've worn the Shoei for three years now the RF-1000. You also need to consider aerodynamics and venting. The Shoei RF-1000 is great in a blast of wind, and it's relatively quiet and lightweight. I have the optional pinlock shield, which is a sort of double pane visor...it doesn't mist up as much in colder temps. I tried it on in the store for 45 minutes before I bought it. The Arai pressed too much on the sides of my head. The HJC was too loose. How the helmet looks on me is the least concern on my list. But construction-how well it is made IS at the top. Price is the next least concern. The brain is the most vulnerable organ when you ride, more or less. Also how cold it is out is not the reason to go to a full face. I wear it year round, even in 100 degree weather. 29% of all hits to the head occur to the jaw area. Sorry for the sermon. I think before any big $$ purchase one needs to be aware of all the factors (shape, quality, aerodynamics, noise levels, etc). |

I got lucky with my GMAX and am very happy with it but am looking forward to the motorcycle show in December so I can try on a bunch of helmets in one place.
