join canada, the u.s., and mexico together and have a common currency/open borders trade policy such as the european union.

seperate countries, but a common monetary instrument and trade area.

it's a comin'

:tinfoilhat:

edit: hal turner is a racist nutjob, but the concept of the amero and a north american union have been talked about by legit researchers for years.

I see. According to Hal Turner, the USD will be worthless. I don't believe it though. I think it'll convert equally. He's alarming all of us. He's helping the economy to collapse. I don't have a degree in economy but I'm thinking, if we withdraw all of our assets and deposit them overseas, the overseas banks will make money off of our cash leaving the U.S. empty-handed. Yes?

I'm digging up more info about it, not just on the Amero, but on the fact that the U.S., Canada, and Mexico may begin share resources equally if or when we become (drum roll please....) the North American Union!

EDIT: Woops, I better be careful...this is turning into a topic about the government...not allowed on MV. (Sorry Mods and Jess )

if you step back and look at it from an academic perspective, it's not really that far fetched.

if you had told europeans about the euro in 1980, they would have thought you were crazy as well.

2 years ago no one saw the housing crisis either

True. It makes me worry sometimes though. News like these, or even the opportunity to (now) buy Ameros are making people jump. You can buy 100 Ameros for $65 (thanks for the info Woodenhead). I wonder what 100 Ameros is equivalent to IF we convert.

those are just novelty coins, they wouldn't be worth anything in the event of global panic and meltdown. that guy makes novely coins for a living. he has a whole series of word trade center, etc. type coins if you google him.

the concept of an amero is real, but hal turner's coin, that website, etc. are junk.

Uh , Rex, those are novelty coins.

Clearly the only hedge against currency collapse would be buying Lambrettas. Razz emoticon

Oh, lots of people saw the housing crisis coming. It was brought on when mortgage companies were forced to make 20% of their home loans to people who shouldn't be owning a house. If you can't make a decent down payment you should not be buying a house. It kind of goes hand in hand, if you're not responsible enough to save money for at least a 10-20% down payment, maybe you shouldn't be buying.

We worked our BUTTS off to make enough money to buy the house we wanted. We put down over 40% to get the house we wanted with a payment we could afford. It HURT, I mean hurt to save that much money and we sacrificed to do it. I worked at a job I had to travel weeks at a time to make the money we needed, we sacrificed and worked 7 days and week.

So yes LOTS of people saw this coming, but even more just ignored it.

Rex, you're too young to remember that a single dollar could buy a loaf of Wonderbread and eggs Wha? emoticon .

It's called inflation. However, there are some things that are cheaper and better now than in the past.

Example: Cars and computers. Especially computers. I remember the bank that I worked for purchased its first computer for about $12,000. Now the same price/performance is about $1200.

I'll believe this will happen when the USA converts to the metric system and we are all measuring how many Km per Liter we are getting instead of MpG.

Well, actually no--that's not what brought it on at all, but let's bluster about that, and the imaginary secret plots to merge countries, and all the other baloney. There isn't enough real scary crap going on, so let's obsess about the tinfoil hat stuff.

Did you know that if you burp and fart and hiccup at the same time your heart will stop? Or maybe it was sneeze and hiccup.

Somebody told me this, so it must be true.

Yes, "lots of people saw the housing coming" but it was not because "mortgage companies were forced to make" home loans available to people who could not afford them. Just who "forced" them to do that? Getting rid of redlining, for example, does not force you to make a loan to someone who's not credit-worthy, it merely stops you from refusing a loan solely on the basis of the neighborhood in which the house is located. Nobody was holding a g.u.n. to broker's heads and forcing them to make loans against their better judgement.

Instead mortage companies and some banks bought into the fantasy that housing would always go up. They raked in money on PMI for people who didn't have the 20% down and collected plump fees for writing all these subprime mortgages. The idea was values would continue to go up and the equity would materialize in short order. If the borrower couldn't pay, no problem because the house could be sold at an instant profit to cover the loan.

Home loans were packaged by brokers into "stocks" and sold. The brokers who wrote these loans had no intention of servicing them...it was collect fees, throw the loans over the transom, and move on.

Many unsophisticated borrowers - or borrowers with poor impulse control - bought into this fantasy. After all, nobody would loan them more money than they could afford...would they? The "experts" must know what they were doing, right?

Game over.

I understand your frustration, because we too worked hard and bought only the home we could afford. But you make it sound like the mortgage companies who were a large part of causing this mess and meltdown were somehow innocent victims of rapacious borrowers. I don't think so.

Has anyone realized the dollar has risen in value over 15% against the euro and gbp, in the last 90 days?

Still not as cool as it was when the euro was 90 cents. But as things go bad everywhere, oil drops and things balance out the dollar will be fine.

Not sure just what constitutes "too much" BS.

The discussion moved past any "belief" in the coin back around woodenhead's first post. From that point it became a typical case of MV time-frittering.
