Hello Vespa folks

Anyone know if anyone has fitted a sidecar to a GTV or GTS 250. I have looked at Cozy and others on the internet, but no mention of new vespa applications.

Have large floppy Italian dog, who always looks so miserable when we ride off. He would love to come along, with ears flapping, and drool flying.

Have the only Vespas and Lambrettas up here in Northern BC... Not unsurprising with 6 months of winter per year.

Love the GTV, back to being a scooterboy hooligan.

I have actually seen a picture on here somewhere of a sidecar on a GTS or possibly a GTV.
Do these bikes really have the power for all that extra weight not to mention the extra rider?

The modern Vespas definately have the power to pull a loaded sidecar. I've even seen a few ET4s with them. If a vintage Vespa 150 can do it, a modern Vespa 250 can easily do it. Pretty much everything has to be custom fitted, though.

I think for the moderns with sidecars, I've mostly seen ET4s or GTSs. I'm sure with enough patience and rigging, you could put one on a GTV. I don't think I'd put one on my own, but I'd definately be interested in seeing one.

Here's a thread with some good modern Vespa and sidecar pics:

I just returned from the Sidecar Rally in Los Angeles and there was a GTV with a sidecar. I don't know any of the details but here's a picture:

Curt Fargo has/had a sidecar on one of his scooters. Think it was a 250. Doable but you have to get used to riding with it on. Seems like corners would be tricky. Hopefully he'll chime in soon. good luck

I think Curts is a Burgman. Here are some shots from Amerivespa 2007.

It was sure fun to ride in, but I wouldn't want to be the one one the scooter driving the thing!

I think it's a 650? It's a pretty powerful scooter.

650 twin.

Edit - while I"m at it, caveat exemplar - always ride a side car rig before you invest the thousands it'll take to get a side car custom mounted on your bike, because side cars totally throw off the way a bike rides, and makes them often times unrecognizable. You might very well find yourself with something you no longer want to take the dog out on a ride with.

TheO.Z. is right!

I just could not put a sidecar on my gt - even though I love riding sidecars.

I would suggest a Ural motorcycle (I had one - it was very stable and easy to ride) or a P or Stella (I found a real deal on my setup - there are good deals out there) when I was doing research - I found that it can be hard on the automatic transmissions.

It is really fun and draws a lot of attention - but it is difficult too. When I sold my Ural a guy that had been riding motorcycles for 10 years wanted to take a test ride and came so close to an accident - he had the sidecar about three feet off of the ground. Start slowly and fill the sidecar with about 200lbs of sand while learning. I really only travel about 35mph tops on my ride.
