Ok how does everyone else who has earrings deal with keeping your earrings and riding? In the last week I've lost three earrings. I'm getting kinda peeved and am just considering not wearing them at all but my holes will start to close up within a week...and I don't feel inclined to take them out and put them back in every night.

Screw backs..doesn't that mean if my helmet is currently pulling my earrings out, than with screw backs..they'll rip my ears off instead??

I wear hoops and never have had a problem, but maybe your helmet fits you tighter than mine does.

The earrings don't bother me at all when I'm wearing the helmet but when I'm putting the helmet on/off it's snug at the base of the helmet...not painful just snug...I'm not even feeling any pulling when I'm losing the earrings. I've got a FF modular so I'm trying harder to leave the chin bar up and pull hard to get the straps pulled to the side...but obviously thjat didn't work since I lost another one this evening.

sounds like you are doing the right thing to get the helmet off-pull the chin straps down and out, and pull the helmet off by the straps

I've taken to wearing small hoops because all my post earrings were either stabbing me or coming off as I took my helmet off I suppose that's pretty strange--choosing my earrings to be compatible with my helmet My earrings are smaller, but this is the type of closure that works for me: |

Really good suggestions... esp taking the helmet off using the chin straps. I've had better luck with the smaller earrings, with smaller/shorter posts. (They snag the helmet liner less.) The small hoops look promising too.

I like teeny tiny hoops that clip together, and have a single hinge in the middle. They can actually roll all the way around through your ear, and you won't notice (like I said, they're really tiny). They're small enough they rarely ever get caught in anything, but big enough to show you're wearing earrings. I sometimes forget I wear them. Found mine at Claire's for less than $10, sterling silver.
For small post earrings, I usually get the rubber backings for them. One, they don't hurt as much if the helmet pushes your ears back into your head. And two, they grip the post better without pinching your ears, and tend to stay on better than traditional metal backs. For anything dangly at all, I just put them in my pocket, and put them on when I take my helmet off. This is the only way I'll even bother with French-hook style earrings (which I prefer). With scoots I always plan on getting somewhere a few minutes early if I'm on a deadline anyway, just in case. Plenty of time to put in or adjust earrings. My two cents. Good luck. The earring problem is a tricky one. ⚠️ Last edited by Witch on UTC; edited 2 times

I actually took out the pad inside the helmet and cut out some of the cushion from the inside of the pad so it wasn't quite so tight in that area. Great for my sun glasses, too.

here's my deal:
RIGHT EAR- hoop in upper cartalidge, hooks into itself post... i got a thin-guage "labret" post, it has a flat back big hoop* LEFT EAR- small silver hoop, hooks into itself post in tragus(?) big hoop* *big hoops maybe 1"-1.5", hook into themswlves like you i wear a modular... what works for me is having it "closed", putting it on by pulling down on chin straps, taking it off i have it "open"- pulling up on the helmet with my thumbs near my jawbone i'm sure having hoops with no type of hooking device to snag helps let us know what you find that works for you... good luck! |

Smrf, what type of helmet do you wear? If it is a full face, I don't have any suggestions other than to remove your earrings when you ride or being extra careful when you take your helmet off ... but if you wear any other type of helmet, you might try wearing a small scarf or buff to protect your earrings.

I wear a full face modular.
And unfortunately I'm not really into jewelry (point in case I loss about half my collection in the last week due to taking my helmet off - CLARIFICATION the earrings are not even noticeably when the helmet is on nor when I'm not putting it on or taking it off...just at some point I reckon when removing the helmet it's taking the earrings with it) so if my earrings are pulled out or taken out intentionally it takes me awhile to notice or replace them and even though I've had these holes for years...they'll close up still...getting home from boot camp and re-piercing myself was NOT fun. I have also lost an earring or two - I'm not aware of how, because nothing pulls or catches when I take the helmet off. I have taken to preventive measures: if they are large, I wear my earrings stuck through my blouse or top until I get to work (if they're in my pocket I forget all about them). Or I just check my ears as soon as I take my helmet off - if it's come out at that point I can usually find it in the helmet or near the scooter. Sometimes I find that the earwire has rotated around so that it isn't quite off, but would likely slip out during the day if I didn't notice it.

Don't wear them when you ride. Simple. |

I gave up after having earrings fall to the ground upon removal of my helmet. I felt lucky to have caught them before losing them. I make most of my own jewelry, and have given up riding with earrings on. I have a pocket in my purse for all accesories. A good friend went down a year ago and she was lucky not to have destroyed her antique diamond wedding ring. I take all my rings, watch, and earrings off and put them on once I get to work. I don't want to risk the jewelry that is irreplaceable.
