Here's a live link. Funny article, if not the most accurate.
Do not show this to SO's or others who are convinced you are nuts for riding a scooter! |

Quote: I also liked the idea of a Vespa because most bikes are Japanese. This means they are extremely reliable so you cannot avoid a fatal crash by simply breaking down. This is entirely possible on a Vespa because it is made in Italy. |

I thought that this Clarkson character, like the ubiquitous "Joe The Plumber", had been deemed a charlatan and a toolbox by this point and his opinions and commentary largely dismissed...no?

Quote: In other words, your small 125cc motorcycle, which has no boot, no electric windows, no stereo and no bloody heater even, will end up costing more than a Volkswagen Golf. That said, a bike is much cheaper to run than a car. In fact, it takes only half a litre of fuel to get from your house to the scene of your first fatal accident. Which means that the lifetime cost of running your new bike is just 50p. Remember that Clarkson writes this stuff precisely to get the reaction from people that he does. Totally tongue-in-cheek humor is great to read - Spike Milligan was a master at this and Clarkson's humor reminds me of Spike's books. |

This reminds me of a Dave Barry column. I was laughing throughout, and am forwarding it along to my friends who ride but won't see it here.
Yeah, I know lots of folks think Clarkson is an idiot, but this is really a very funny piece if you read it like you would read Barry. |

Funny article.
I posted this comment on the site: I have a Vespa GTS 250 ie and love it. If your riding is as bad as your writing then don't ride a Vespa. You will no doubt crash and be killed. |

Best you spend an evening You Tubing or better still hit your local DVD store for some first class motoring infotainment. The guy (Clarkson) and his mates are top drawer. Almost as good as those Kiwis...Flight of the Conchords |

I'm with QuipMC. I found it very funny. I don't know anything about this Clarkson guy, but I can only imagine the absurdity of this was intentional, therefore quite humorous.
Clarkson said, "And I don't think it even remotely peculiar that a motoring journalist should ride such a thing. Not when there is a problem with the economy and many people are wondering if they should make a switch from four wheels to two. " I think he waited too long to write this. Maybe it could have dissuaded the many who stopped wondering and made the switch without a clue. Now we're seeing countless ebay and Craigslist ads. |
