Modern Vespa

I bought this bag on Craig's list in Oregon, it's an exact replica of the Piaggio leather bag, this one says "Roman Holiday" on it, I haven't seen one with that on it before I ran into this one, it's like new, I was wondering if anyone knew how much these were new and when they were available for sale, or any other info anyone might have.

All I know is that I believe Piaggio did make some canvas cases at one point, just like the one you got, so I don't think it's a replica. Aren't there a couple of folks on here who have one as well? I'd grab one myself, if I had any hopes anyone was still selling them new. I'd prefer a leather one, but I don't prefer the leather price.

someone is selling a black canvas one like yours on MV right now on the for sale secton...he wants $350 for it...that's too much for a canvas bag...Piaggio or not.

From 2003. Was tied to the 50th of "Roman Holiday" movie release. Released the same time as the leather bags. Originally about $199 new I think. Black and tan just like the leather.

I got my leather bag in '01.

It was a steal at $299 (they retailed then for $399).

I went to the '01 Historic races at Laguna Seca on the then new ET4 and as I rode in I just kept getting waved through.

I thought I was being treated like royalty because of the Vespa, but, it so happened Piaggio USA had a tent there with Vespa S.F. and the parking marshalls thought I was part of that.

I got to park in vendor island at the Vespa stand.

I bought the bag off the guys there, they knocked a hundred off to save packing it up and taking it away

A guy from Piaggio came up to me and said 'oh, man, you got the bag'.

I said something like uhhmm yeah.

He said, hey that was my baby, I went to Italy and arranged for them to be made, there's this little old guy in Tuscany and he hand makes every single one...

There was a leather one on eeeebai a couple months back sold for $275.

Bought mine new from the dealer for $150 a little over 2 years ago.

I've heard the "old man in Tuscany" story before, and lately I read that the leather bags were made by the same company that does the leather for Ferrari ; the company was claimed to be Schedoni.

Anybody know the conclusive story? Or should this be a new thread?

Although not an expert, Schedoni marks all their product. My Piaggio Leather bag has no mark anywhere. Although nicely made, I'd have to say the "old man" story seems more realistic.

I bought my tan canvas bag online a few years ago for around $120.
Sold it on ebay last year for over $200. I love ebay

I received one second hand from a friend here on MV. It was in great shape when I installed it, but didn't last long (less than a year) in the strong middle-eastern sun.
