Good catch on the belt. Bound to save some grief if you take Val's advice.

all kidding aside, good catch. the way you ride you'd have eaten that belt in no time.

glad to hear that you've got your ride back, too.

I can't believe that people will not replace belts, tires, hoses, and other rubber parts....I check them in my cars, scoots, every time I open the hood, and variator covers.....
I replaced the belt in my scoot, when I put on my kit...Everyone should replace their belts every 4000-5000 miles, or every 5 years....at the most on a scoot!
I replaced the fuel hoses in my 88 Yamaha, when I saw black specks in the float bowl, and replaced the fuel tap with a modern one from a vino....with the alcohol in the fuel today, it eats up the old fuel hoses fast!
Check your rubber parts for blisters, cracks, bubbles, softness or hardness at least once a year....

How many miles did you have on your scooter when that happened?

and don't forget the variator...
check your Costa variators too....

7000 miles and the variator was worn out also...

the bushing wears into the 1mm washer....on its way toward eating the fan side pulley half.....not good.

But then again the girl rides hard....

I rode my Scarabeo like hell, and never once did I completely wear out a belt before changing it. Although, I probably should have changed it way more often than I did. 3 belts in 16K miles. I think I got lucky on a lot of parts with that scoot.

I always had a Malossi belt on my Scarabeo. Does Malossi do well for the 250 Vespas, too? What are some of the better brands right now? I've got a parts/accessories coupon good for about the time I should pick up my GTV, and I'm not opposed to picking up a couple spare things while they're cheaper.

2 years, +/- 17,000 miles on the scoot and 3 weeks +/- 6,500 miles on the belt (not a typo)
Fortunately (?) it didn't turn into a pile of spaghetti like ifixjets' did. Mine came apart into a bunch of 1-2" pieces.

Much like Cannonball, your ride really accelerated the wear on the belt. I've come to believe that you can't really gauge the wear on the belt by miles alone, but have to consider how long (and hot) the riding was.

I changed my belt on Day Six of Cannonball, with only about 2000 miles on it. I couldn't afford to have it break during the event.

First thing I noticed was the shoes. Nice!

On the Cannonball my GTV belt broke for Joel (with maybe 3,000 miles on it) just a couple days after Rolf looked at it and said it seemed OK. Hard riding in hot weather is definitely hard on belts.

Here is the GT 200 destructions: GT200 CVT belt and rollers replacement.

I see you have the GTS: Variator & Belt change - Pictures from MV workshop

You will need the GTS variator tool:

About $140.00. External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

I'm curious, who manufactured the belt?

I've arbitrarily decided to replace the belt, rollers, and variator nut on my ET4 every 8K miles, so my next change will be due in a week or two. With several different belt offerings out there, I'm trying to decide which belt to order this time.

Incidentally, my first OEM belt looked just fine (visually) at 8K miles.
I replaced it with the Malossi belt, which is still on now. It's given me no problems so far. We'll see how it looks when I change it out.

I'm due before too long. I replace the OEM with a Kevlar belt, I think it was the Malossi.

The Kevlar is less expensive, but I think I will go with the OEM again next time.

My CVT has a moan to it on take off after the change.

I may not have cleaned the clutch plates well enough.

perverts!!! 8)

this is my 3rd belt. they've all been stock, and none of them have cracked like this one. it was so much fun ripping into the Costa that i had another one put on. 22K miles on the bike. she's quick again.

Replaced my first belt at 5900 mile just as a precaution. Noticed ridges on the front pulley, lost top end, could never regain top speed. I thought the extended warranty should have covered this at that milage, but I guess not.

.

Replaced second belt at 1100 miles with front pulleys. Power and top speed is back.

It seems with every belt change one can expect to get that grinding sound in the clutch from the new belt. Correct me if Im wrong.

I just replaced my rollers and belt at 12000 Kms and haven't noticed any grinding noise.

A friend of mine recently changed out his belt and pulley has the grinding sound coming from the clutch area afterwards. Ive gotten rid of it with brake cleaner.

Fucking transmissions.
