i am looking at a use vespa et4 friday for my wife. anything i should be aware, or look for , any glitches with that year. the scooter has a salvage title but seem to run well and have some cosmetic damages.i don't want to spend too much money since i already have 2 bikes in the garage one for racing and one for day to day use, i thought it may be a good idea to get my wife into riding. let me know what to look for
thanks

Its the best ET4 year EVAR. 8)

The last one they made the bike.

No glitches that matter.

How many miles does it have on it?

Has it been serviced regularly, as per the owner's manual (600 miles, 2000 miles, approx. every 2000 miles after that)?

Check the fuel lines, they can get brittle and need replacing.

Check the pads and rotors, make sure they aren't warped, etc.

Start it up and see if the autochoke works... after a minute or two of higher reving the bike should chug slowly and smoothly.

Does the seller have the RED master key to give you as well as the blue one? You'll need it.

That's a start.

Wicked awesome bike. The 2005 ET doesn't differ signifigantly from any other Leader engine ET except that I believe (and I may be wrong here), that it is the only year that the ET had two separate headlight bulbs for the high and low beam. I have never heard of any issues or glitches particular to that year.

Can you explain by what you mean by cosemetic damages, and whether you are looking to have them repaired, or ride the scoot as is?

What kind of riding is your wife looking to do? The ET4 is a super around-town kind of bike (the best of any modern Vespa IMO), but may lack the power you want for highway riding.

Every 2000 miles?

Yawn....

Every 4000 miles or once a year... would be more like it....

Love my 2005 ET4. Bought it used with 1700 miles. I have put over 1200 on it now, and am changing the rear tire this week. Other than changing the oil (thanks Matt), nothing else has been done to it (other than a windshield, decals, and oh, yeah...the front fender chrome that fell off and nearly killed me).

Do it! If this doesn't get her loving scootering, nothing will.

i am not sure what you guys mean by making sure to get the red key and the blue key why is it so important? what should i do if he only have the red key and not the blue or vice versa?thanks for your responses. i am not looking for too much power it is just for my wife to try to enjoy riding i have plenty of hp in the garage on the 2 bikes i just think it would be easier to start with a scooter than a bike and she thinks vespas are really cool.
