I see that Jettin Industries has put their $65 GTS/GTV Variator tool up on their website. It looks like this:

The Piaggio tool costs $139 and looks like this:

Anybody care to comment on the utility/flaws on these two different designs ? I'm going to get one or the other soon.

cheers

I received my Jettin V. Tool but I am yet to try it out. It is good quality, probably not as nice a tool as the factory offers but I think for holding the variator in place while I loosen a nut it will work just fine. I also purchased the clutch holding tool.

When I do my belt and rollers I will report fully on the experience.

I guess I looked at it this way: $140 is not unreasonable for a specialized tool, but not really worth it unless I was working on Vespas all day long.

Take the extra $75 and apply it to other tools that will make your life easier when working on your Vespa.

Craftsman and Snap-On make great tools and since they are not specialized for one application I can see spending the money there.

Check out http://www.griotsgarage.com/ for some cool tools and other things to spend $ on.

Bendy,
I hear you regarding the difference in price.

I have pneumatic tools, so the tool isn't so much for getting the nut off, but rather for holding the variator while I use a torque wrench when re-installing a new nut.

I see that the Jettin tool is smaller and only has one point to counteract rotation while the Piaggio tool has two. I'd guess at Jettin they deemed one point adequate, especially when compared to the little stamped out tool that the ET4 and GT200 use.

Looking forward to your judgement. I'm hoping the cheaper one is decent.

cheers
