Hello Guys,

I just installed a side stand on my 2005 GTS250 and I have concerns just about one thing. It snaps back and so if not used properly and if the scooter is not parked on level ground the scooter could end up on it's side. I just installed it. Other have experience? Timothy

Be very careful, that is excatly what the GTS sidestand is known for, FALLING OVER with any slight jostle. Crying or Very sad emoticon
I believe that there may be some posts in the SEARCH FUNCTION that address this issue and possibly how to modify the sidestand to not be so touchy.

Haven't installed mine yet because I don't have any waterproof lubricating grease. Maybe this weekend? Did "finger tighten" it for a garage tryout. I can see the concern about the bike tipping over. For me, I think, on other than level concrete, I'll just use the center stand.

Did you use a spring puller, or some other method of attaching the springs?

get rid of it
I have an European bike with the side stand on it as is.

I got rid of the thing since it is a pain in corners. Also it catches your trousers and it is a piece of sh*t to park it on. To much risk to flip over..

Its for dust collection now

I've owned several Beemers with snap-back sidestands as far back as 1975 and NEVER had one fall over. If you're careful with how you use it and always turn the front wheel to the left, you will probably never have a problem. I use the sidestand quite a bit but I only use it when I'm either nearby or parking in my garage. I wouldn't park my scooter and leave it on the sidestand where someone might try and sit on it. A little common sense goes a long way when using a snap-back sidestand.
*My GTS is in the garage right now on it's sidestand and that's how it is 95% of the time when it's parked in my garage.
**One more thing..............my wife uses her sidestand as much as I use mine and has never had a problem.

I just make sure it's all the way out and secure before i leave. Knock on wood i haven't had any problems with mine. The LT center stand never got fixed after my accident 2 years ago and i use the side stand without any problems. It gets less "springy" over time.

OK thanks for all the replies. I used a set of needle nose pliers to pull the springs on. Its not that difficult but before this I greased it well. There were a couple of "O" rings that I left out though. Timothy

You really should take it back off and put those "O rings" where they belong. If you put a little grease on them, they will stay put while you are inserting the kickstand lever & bolt. It will only take a couple of minutes to take it off and put it back on now that you've done it before.

See the instructions here: http://www.scooterwest.com/item_detail/More-Info/320/show_info/yes/

OK I think I will remove and place the "O" rings in their correct place. The insructions were fantastic and thanks. Timothy

I bought my side stand shortly after I bought my GTS250 last year.
I love mine and use it all the time...at the store, at work, while running errands around town, in the garage, etc. in fact, I rarely use the centerstand.
Never had a problem. my scoot has never fallen over you just have to make sure you deploy it correctly when you use it.
Put it on and use it correctly you won't be disappointed

GTS sidestand
I've had my side stand for two years now and only use it when I park it in my garage. I use center-stand when parking other places as there might be/could be some idiot try to sit on it. Lots of dumb-asses out there.
