Hey guys,

I was on my ET2 (I won't go into the details - but in short, it was his fault). I am uninjured except a small graze on my right leg.

I got hit by a guy, and stupidly, I nicely said to him that I could probably do this "off the book" i.e. don't take this to insurance and go straight to someone who can fix it and get a quote - I asked the guy who hit me, what he preferred, and he said it would depend on how much it would cost, so if it cost a lot I imagine he would do an insurance job otherwise if it was little it would be done personally.

However, thinking about it, the repair (See picture below) might cost a few hundred pounds - can someone give me an *approximate* quote on an ET2 frame repair or something, assume it's the original paint I want redone on it - I imagine that would cost more than just taking it to any old garage as I would have to go to a proper Piaggio dealer to get the official paintwork done on it?

I spoke to my driving instructor for my car lessons who told me that I should call my insurance within 24 hours, and double checked this with my dad who agreed. So now I need to give the guy an excuse (as I was pretty nice to him, I don't want to be a total arse even though it was his fault - everyone makes mistakes.)

So basically if anyone has an approximate idea for the cost of a frame repair that would be great - I took down his name, phone and registration details and time/date of crash but did not get his insurance details (duh... i stupidly forgot/was too nice)... so I need an excuse for this, just to be a little angel. Thus, I need to tell him I have a buddy who works in a workshop who gave me a quote.

Any help would be appreciated...! And I hope to get a new paintjob from this 8) ... hopefully!! my scoot is a little scratched, as he is the first PTW I ever rode on, and still enjoy taking him out for a spin round the block, as I did today. Laughing emoticon

Not wishing to depress you too much but if there's damage to the frame it may well be that it won't be repaired depending on the severity of damage. Yes deffo contact your insurance and get down to the dealer for a quote for repairs plus a loan/hire scoot while yours is off the road. I'd much rather get the job done properly than take it somewhere to find they've only given it a cosmetic make over.

Any damage like that which requires a new paint job would just about "total" the scooter. So, to repair it would cost a lot. Get a real quote and go through your insurance company, they will collect from his.
Good Luck.

If its frame damage the likelyhood is that it will be a cat c economical write off. Insurance company will look to replace any parts that are damage and will likely respray the whole bike and not just the damaged area. Looks costly to me and if I were you I would ring insurance as you are legally bound to within 24 hours of any road traffic accident.

If he is gonna admit liability i would get the pay out and if if u wished buy back your bike and repair it yourself.

My gt125 was written off 4 month ago claim in ongoing but it was the thrid parties fault, they said repairs would be £1700 I have fixed her up plus put on a new exaust for about £600

Sadly, I also think your insurance company will find it cheaper to pay out the 'book' value of your scooter (less your deductible) rather than paying to have him fixed. Go with the insurance and explain to the driver (after the fact) that you were advised to do so by your scooter knowing friends.
Once you have an estimate, if the frame is sound, you might consider buying him back from the insurance company & riding him more or less as is.
Sorry.

Regards
Harvey

OK, thanks for your help guys,

What I've read so far is good. I didn't have his policy number or company, but I figured.... lets try and call insurance and see what they say anyway! So I did that, and the guy said he can just do it with his number plate etc, which I have.

So, someone will give me a call back in a few hours, basically.

If my scoot gets a Write-off Cat-C whatever (I've seen cat C scoots appear on eBay so I'm aware of these), then that works with me... I am saving up for a bigger scoot and I can use the moolah to part fund it etc. Shame to see my first scoot go, but hey, I can look forward to something bigger... at some point in the near future

Thanks again, will let you know how it goes.

with scoots they will write them off cus they aint worth so much in the first place

cat c/d can be re registered to go back on the roads

cat a/b not

just be carefull when they offer you a settlement figure not to take first offer they will give u a really low one to start, you wanna be looking into how much its worth so u know how much u want,

They offered me 1050 for my vespa at first but after looking at parkers and a few for sale i made em gimme 1650

there will be a salvage value whioch is how much they will sell the bike to a breakers yard for then the rest they will claim from 3rd party insurers.

See how much they will charge you to buy back, can get the bikes back pretty cheap sometimes and still get a nice sum of money from third party.

If they do write the scooter off, no doubt they will offer you soma ridiculuos price for it. Do some homework and see what similar aged scooters are going for before agreeing a pay out form the insurance.
