I'm sure this is a re-post, but I don't think it falls under the evap issue, maybe it does? Dunno ...couldn't find something similar to it.

I had a slight overfill yesterday evening, few trickles down the side of the scoot.

No problems with starting or rough idle or issues above 6k revs. I burned about 24 miles of fuel today and noticed that I have had a significant decrease in acceleration off the line. Both in the morning (50-55F) and the evening (80-87F) [today].

Any idea what this could be? I've been opening the gas cap before each ride.

Thanks,

Zach

Hi Zach. I've got a GTS, too. The only time I noticed slow off-the-line acceleration was a day or two before my belt gave out. 'Twas nothing to do with fuel. Hopefully more knowledgeable folks will chime in to help you with a diagnosis. Good luck!

belt?
Uuugh ... that is not what I wanted to hear. I've got just under 5k miles on this thing. Should the belt be going out already?

Valincal started a thread about belts recently: Check your belts In it,

I'll bet he's right. How hard do you accelerate? Long rides or short? Hot weather? Other factors?

Im in San Francisco...the weather is Bay-ish 40-80 all year round. I bought it second hand off a guy who took half-way decent care of it.

Under 5k miles, I ride it pretty hard I guess, I accelerate quite a bit. My commute is about 25-30 miles round trip / day (4-5 days a week). A lot of stop and go traffic up Mission from Daly City to San Francisco.

I just had the clutch assembly replaced, I can't imagine the place I took it wouldn't have noticed the belt being in bad shape and not mentioned it...

Cost?
How much will the belt generally cost and how long should it take to replace? I see the tutorial online for a GTS ... doesn't look like it'll take too long.

I know the shop I go to charges $95/hr or (.95 * 10 min) ... the belt is prolly $90-100 right?

Fucking A...this damn thing is like owning a Ferrari.

Now that I think about it, I will probably have to get the rollers replaced too.

It's got a nice clatter going on. I could be totally wrong but I dont want to waste $95 to get this diagnosed and it be nothing.

I don't know the cost to replace the belt or even if that's the problem you're having. (sorry!) I was hoping others who have more knowledge and experience would chime in.

I met the folks at San Francisco Scooter Centre a month or so ago. They went out of their way to be helpful to me. Maybe you could talk with them about what may or may not be happening. I'll bet they'll fix you up in no time. Good Luck!

Belts run ~$125 each, rollers about $35/set. I imagine it would be an hour or two of labor for a belt change.

SF Scooter Centre is pretty awesome. That's where I'll be taking it today. Looking at the manual it's pretty obvious at least the rollers are getting close to being changed (10km/6kmi). the guy who had it before me did a lot of high way riding i believe.

Riding in this morning the problem didn't seem to be as bad but it's clearly still there. I didn't want to push it too hard and break the belt.

With cautious riding I should be okay for a few days until I can get it in right?

Status update
Veracom Vespa changed the drive belt at 4,400 miles in May 2008. I've only put about 400 miles on it since I got it 3 weeks ago.

As an interesting addendum, they did not change the front variator rollers when they changed the belt...wtf?

Took it to SFSC and Barry drove it around and said he couldn't feel any decrement in performance. Maybe I'm insane?

No way I dont think so ... just 91 at Shell. I did have a bit of overflow, but nothing that I think would lead to that evap issue.

Oh well -- the scooter seems to be fine now. Maybe it's a weather thing?

It was unnaturally hot yesterday in the city (86)
