I have now had the scoot two days, and I started it for the first time at night when it was cold tonight.

I noticed the wrench came onto the lcd display and was flashing.

I read in the manual that service isn't until 621 miles.

Why is my wrench flashing?

I apologize if this is a stupid question!

sorry for not clarifying before, but i have a 2007 mp3 250.

And i looked into the manual for the service light (wrench) and found that it says it will flash when service is needed.

Now i do not know if this is because the mileage tripped the light to go off, or if it has a problem.

I looked into the service schedule towards the back of the manual and it says service at 621 MI and lists about 15 things to check/adjust/change.

The service required tripped the wrench. After you have it service by a qualified Piaggio technician the light will be reset.

Best,

well the light goes off once i started to drive.

is that normal? and what should i expect to pay for the service on the scooter?

I am VERY mechanically inclined, just need the knowledge of how-to's to guide me.

These should help:

https://modernvespa.com/files/workshop/MP3-250-Workshop-Manual.pdf

https://modernvespa.com/files/wiring/MP3-250-Wiring-Diagram-USA.pdf

https://modernvespa.com/files/parts/MP3-250-Parts-USA.pdf.zip

From the Technical Library, [topic630]

I think the maintenance icon is just giving you some advance notice. 100 miles flies by!

Don't forget, it's not only distance that triggers the service icons, it's time. If the scoot is now 1 year old, the service icon will flash even if the scoot has only done a few miles.

Follow these steps to reset the service icons:

1. With the key set to OFF, hold down the "SET" button and turn the key to ON : the "BELT" and "SERVICE" icons start flashing.

2. Push the "CLOCK" button for less than 1 second and the icons are displayed sequentially. he icon selected remains ON and the other is no longer displayed.

3. Press the "CLOCK" button again for more than 3 seconds to reset the relative maintenance step and the icon is no longer displayed.

hahaha it is sitting right next to me as well.

GREATLY APPRECIATED.

i previously had a cheap chinese scoot with a half helmet/faceshield setup.

What helmets do you recommend? I get too much helmet shake at higher speeds.

There are a lot of helmets out there. You will need to find the one right for you. I would recommend spending time at http://www.webbikeworld.com/ who do a lot of testing of helmets.

Also as far as wearing a half helmet, check out the statistics of helmet impact locations and draw your own conclusions about the safety that they provide.

There are several threads on helmets, I think, but I'll weigh in: Get a full-face! I wear glasses with wraparound temples so had to go with a flip-up/modular design. I once heard 3/4 helmets referred to as "chin removers," something that has always stuck in my mind.

Reviews can be very helpful, but ultimately you'll have to try a few on find the one that's right for you. Cost should be a lesser consideration.

Google Motorcycle Helmet and Motorcycle Helmet Safety. You'll find that most of the folks that speak up about this will strongly recommend a full helmet...The reasons are obvious.
I recommend you implement the acronym Toreador Pants... that's All The Gear All The Time....The time and inconvenience to "gearing up" is absolutely nothing compared to the "inconvenience" of broken bones, smashed face, asphalt bits imbedded in your skin, you skin grated off, hospital bills, loss of pay, rehabilitation, doctor bills or even, God Forbid, loss of your life ......Besides every single person you know and don't know will think upon hearing of you not wearing protective clothing in a crash..."Idiot." Oh how embarrasssing...here's all the suffering and no sympathy either. Crying or Very sad emoticon
By the Way, if you haven't taken the Motorscycle Safety Foundation course...I strongly recommend you do so....It adds 2 years of "good" riding experience to your skill level...

Welcome...and The only stupid question is one that is not asked....
Ride Safe...Live Well....Cheers...jacquie

I apologize for my straightforward talk. Nothing I've written was meant in anyway to offend.
