Nothing against you Judy... I don't kill the messenger... BUT SO WHAT...? Figures it comes from the Marketing Dept.
First, it doesn't define what the extended warranty consists of. Second, Piaggio/Vespa's warranty is worthless... unless your scooter simply 'blows up', Piaggio will fight any other type of claims made. Extending that is no benefit. I had a clear factory defect plastic body part on my '07 GT200 - the piece was missing a 'tab' and would not stay flush when installed - clearly the 'tab' wasn't broken. Instead, in it's injection molding, it didn't flow enough plastic to that part of the mold to form the needed tab. Piaggio denied the claim stating that 'Body Parts' were excluded. I contacted them and they stated that despite submitting the claim inside the warranty period, my warranty had just expired so I was out of luck! Worst experience I've ever had!! No choice but to buy a replacement part on my nickel - $68!! |

I need some help with that. That's a "php" file...never heard of that. Can someone tell me what opens it, and verify it's safe?
Thanks. And can I get some clarification on Piaggio's warranty not covering anything? If I recall, one poster did have success when his water pump (I think) blew. IOW, is thaere a page describing what is and what is not covered, and people's experience with warranty service, either positive or negative? |

As for whether the warranty is meaningful, I can't say for sure. My educated guess is that the reality on the ground is that it will vary by dealer, as the stronger dealers seem to be able to take care of business and the weaker dealers mostly just sell scooters and then go out of business or drop the line. All very Darwinian, as with many things in life. |

It's a safe file. Basically it says that any new scooter (2008 or 2009) purchased from oct 20 2008 thru nov 30 2008 that has their warranty registered will automatically get an extended warranty. It was sent to me from vespa schenectady. I stopped in to see the new shop in the capital region when i was visiting friends last month. He put me on his mailing list. Just thought since i hadn't seen anything about it i would post it. I have a 2007 and it doesn't affect me but people are buying new scooters and they can ask about it. All dealers aren't created equal as we all know. Some are better than others. So i thought people might want to know it's out there. ISCOOT it was a FYI you can take your issues with piaggio to your dealer or piaggio. I can't help you. Not a dealer nor do we have a good here on island. Boondocks not real computer savvy but if you open it you can see what i just said. All it addresses is the free extended warranty. Again it came to me so i just passed it along. No horse in the race just peter passing stuff along to his email crew. Thanks SURFAN

My scooter lives outside ( no garage ) and after over a year the horn button wouldn't work. I had the extended warranty and had the switch replaced free of charge. Nothing else gone wrong with it and it's over 5 years old now. |

Agreed it all depends on the Dealer and if they want to deal with it.
When I bought mine I got a three year extended warranty. I hope the wonky seat is covered under the warranty. Manny |

I would like to have had an extension on my 2006 GTS warranty. The service that comes from such a warranty must all be related to the dealer. My dealer (Cycle City) ordered and replaced a plastic body part that cracked during the warranty period at no charge. I assume it's the same dealer that Judy is writing about. I'm not sure of their technical expertise but their service is fine from my standpoint.

Quote: Piaggio/Vespa's warranty is worthless I agree that a strong dealer may have an "in" with the factory compared to a weak dealer, but with hundreds of dealers, no dealer is all that strong. So if there are warranty problems, I'd be inclined to point fingers at the dealer who is passing the buck unnecessarily, not Piaggio, in many cases. On the other hand, if a purchaser has dealt directly with Piaggio without satisfaction, that's different. But most of us deal with a manufacturer based upon what the dealer tells us about the manufacturer. Cary |

Well, this should be perfect timing for me. My dealer said today that they expect to get my GTV in the first week of November! Even if a warranty extension doesn't turn out to be so great or useful, at least it's free. I'm not one to turn down something like that.

Well, that sucks. I just got mine in July. I wonder if they'll receive a complaint backlash? Ho-hum.

My better half has had her GTS for about a month now and has the Vespa leather seat on it, which seems to be the exact same shape as the stock. She finds it very comfortable but I do not. I much prefer the GT seat. But I will have to say the GTS seat does not close as well as mine. Her GTS came with the extended warranty. It's good until 12/09. FYI to MV members, it was a pre-owned GTS we bought and the warranty was easily transferable and there is no cost involved to transfer said warranty. |

Body parts are covered
I have a Piaggio Vespa with a cracked headset and bad switch in the turnsignal. Piaggio is replacing the headset and the broken signal and covering the labor too. My original dealer(guy I got it from bought it at)has been great to work with-Vespa of Medina, Ohio, he pushed it through with Piaggio for me.
It's unfortunate you had a bad experience with your warranty, I have had good and bad experiences with warranty depts. of various companies, some have paid up, some have fought/failed to cover what they said they would. I would pay for an extended warranty from Piaggio, and might. I bought my scoot second hand so not sure if I am eligible for the free offer. Thanks for posting and reminding me I need to check it out...Sally |
