I want to use a HID kit in my GT 200 and convert the extra running light in the headlight bucket into a halogen ight so I can use my modulator kit. Has anybod tried this or haveany thoughts?
Since modulators do not shut off the light, just reduce its intensity as they "modulate", it shouldn't make any difference. Once the ballast on the HID light is warmed up, it doesn't take any time at all to come to full brightness, and it takes a little time for it to cool down even when shut off completely.
FWIW, I have just recently had installed the aircraft equivalent of a modulator on my little airplane, which has had HID lights for about 4 years--but this actually shuts off power to the lights between flashes. It's called Pulselite by PreciseFlite. My mechanic wired it so that both landing and taxi lights are pulsed 90 pulses per minute (they're beside one another in the left wing). The only recommendation that was made by PreciseFlite is to turn on the lights for about 10 seconds before turning on the Pulselite. I was told that the ballasts for both lights will stay hot enough that there won't be any delay in coming to full brightness. My first night flight with the Pulselite installed was a month ago, and it was easy to tell that the lights came to full brightness immediately after each pulse.
