My club (or, mostly AirborneVespa) is setting up a new cannonball to be run next June. Close to 1000 miles in 2 days. No chase trucks. No GPS systems. One class (vintage/shift scooters). No point systems - best time wins. I'll most likely be doing it on my 90ss, as the more uncomfortable you are, the faster you should go. It will be based around the DC area.

edit - and as it isn't a true cannonball, the name should be changing.

Neat.

I like the idea of just having one single class ( though i understand why what has morphed into the current cannonball must have them ) ...

And i like the idea of a 90ss winning, so .... get on that. Perhaps you can secretly mount a GPS unit in the dummy tank. Or pee in there so you don't have to stop.

I'm trying to work out motor choices. I have the following (from least HP to most, also from best MPG to worst)

v90 - stock
90ss - stock
90ss - dr130, 19/19
et3 - stock
pk125 - case matched malossi 136, direct inlet reed, tm24

Or, I could build either of the following

M1 - tmx26
FALC - 154cc, tmx30

The FALC would give me roughly 26ish hp with a pretty slack street tune - but I'm guessing I would get 30-50 miles per tank.

I'm thinking a good compramise would be either the DR130 or Malossi 136 motor. DR should cruise alright at 55-60ish, and get 35-40mpg. Malossi should cruise decently at 70ish, and get 30ish mpg.

It's for the best. Smallframes aren't cut out for everyone.

Yer just not doing it right. Think "Bear on Tricycle". Here's my buddy Todd from up in P-Town, who may be a bit taller than both of you:

As I remember hearing about it, it's a pretty cool idea.

I guess Rocket on his P200 would not be allowed to use his GPS tho That's probably how Rocket won the vintage class this past cannonball. That and Roy's bike bit a clutch spring and the woodruff key...

My 90 is not up to the task yet. Though in a few weeks, if I had money after all the replacement parts I'm putting in to my GT, I'm sure I could get it running better.

I've never seen a small frame up close. Are they really that much smaller than a large frame?

Yeah...shorter, lighter, and the legshields are much thinner too ( notice there's only room for 2 rubber / aluminum strips on the floor on either side rather than 3 on largeframes )

Those guys are riding those SS90's in the racing tucked-in style, though ...using the pad on the dummy tank. It looks stupid if you're a big guy

Todd is riding an old 50 special with an ET3 engine and a DR 133 top end, without a dummy tank (unless you're refering to his head).

Sorry about taking this way off topic, but a friend of mine she's super tiny 5'1 and wants a vintage scoot. Would she be able to sit and put her feet down on the ground on a small frame?

Patrick insists that the design of the UnStealth made it more comfortable than his Sym HD200, after riding them both approximately the same distance.

I could buy it. My back was wrenched after an extended tuck.

yes, but often it's not the height that poses the biggest problem, it's the left wrist. a lot of those small frames you gotta be the fuckin hulk to shift that shit, and ignore the pain in the wrist till you get used to it.

Nice. Finally, an EAST TO WEST run!

well.. the FIRST cannonball ( 2005 ) was an east to west run. The second ( 2007 ) was west to east, from portland to NJ.

And this new one would NOT be a cross-country trip...( 1000 miles from DC does NOT equal cross country ! )
