Re: Has Peugeot upstaged Piaggio's MP3 ?! NO WAY!
Maynard Schweigert wrote: www.cmgonline.com/content/view/837/80/ "Peugeot says it can run in electric only, IC only, or both modes, and that performance figures are comparable to a conventional 400 cc scooter, at 0-100 km/h in 11.2 seconds with a 110 km/h top speed. The batteries for the electric motors are recharged via a regenerative braking system." They must have some gutless 400cc scooters in France if they only do 110 kmh. I think even the 125 MP3 will get close to that... Peugeot is innovative, but their cars (along with Citroen) are less than average in reliability. They would never be sold in the USA again because of the lemon laws. That is peugeot's decision - no legal force is preventing them from selling here. I do not know about their scooters, though. Nice
Nice, & I think the green corner, would sell a few, but bound to be pricy, now if it was a 500, with some extra boost we might be talking.
I think the mp3 800v of piagio more of a go for me. |

Ultimate 3-Wheeler
The ultimate 3-wheeler is the Aptera, built in Carlsbad, CA. Try www.aptera.com. The hybrid version gets over 250 mpg and runs 90 mph!

Aptera
Wayne, They're taking deposits and sending out marketing questionnaires so they may be close to hitting the streets. The prototypes are on the road in and around Carlsbad, CA (San Diego North County). Thirty grand is a lot of dough and at my age I'd never recoup the fuel savings. Strictly a novelty for oldsters. I'll stick to my MP3. Alan

I have some pics of the Aptera driving around in New York. On the actual streets it is a big headturner.
But as for "coming soon to a dealer near you", I have heard the 140-170 mpg plug-in electric hybrid MP3 is just around the corner (if the corner is the end of the calendar year). That is much sooner than what I expected, particularly when not a single one of the big car manufacturers have any plug-in hybrids slated to make an appearance before 2010-2012. |

The Naro looks nice! I always thought a two-seat tandem makes more sense than a side-by-side, and the parallelogram suspension rocks.
You could say that I bought an MP3 because the Smart failed to live up to its promise. ⚠️ Last edited by ramblerdan on UTC; edited 1 time

The Chinese scooter dealer here in Dallas (Charlie & Son) sells a Chinese scooter that looks like that, roof and all, EXCEPT the two wheels are in the back and the single wheel is in the front. He got ten of them in and they sold out immediately. He will not be getting any more until Feb.
It looks like the Chinese are bringing in better products now. I saw a 250cc for $2,200 from one of their best manufacturers with radio installed, great sound, plug for an Ipod or GPS in a little glove box, abs brakes, topcase and windshield. It had a one year warranty and a guarantee to do 85 mph. I took it for a spin and was impressed (partly because my feet would reach the ground flat footed). I may pick one up for tooling around town running errands and save the MP3 for more road trips. My point is that we are going to see a lot of new stuff hit the road and I, for one, will be happy to see enough bikes on the road that cagers expect and see them. |
