SO my nightmare happened. Sophie, my GT 200 fell on her right side. There is some scuffing on a crack on the brushed aluminum beading that runs along the side, and the paint is scuffed on the rear fender. Anyone know if replacing the beading is something I can do on my own. I have to winterize Sophie anyway, but I thoughT I would make at least one season without something like this. So Depressed!

I did my own beading. Took a minute but as soon as I figured out I had to separate the floor board, glove box and legshield from each other it was a breeze.
I tried to have the Vespa dealer do this work for me but they couldn't figure out how to attach the beading. Just have some patience and you will be happy and proud when its done. Good luck... |

bummer...
you might want to buy some real crash bars, they give more protection. I am looking into it myself after a fellow rider told me she dropped her bike(fully kitted out with sturdy crashbars front and rear)and no damage except a little scrape to her mirror. Repairs on a dented cowl are around $1,000 someone told me. Way cheaper to get the bars, and it ups the cool factor;) Sally

Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for sharing your nsights guys!
I dumped my GT200 in the garage. Of all places. It just started falling to one side and I guess the momentum got the best of me. I didn't dent the cowl, just scratched the paint. AS for the beading, it doesn't sound hard. The dealer said it would be an hour worth of service plus part ($100). Are there places you can just order the beading from? |

Sorry to ear of your plight. My kids tipped over my GT200 and I got away with a fingernail size scratch, but more importantly two uninjured daughters. The 135kg can easily get away on you once it has momentum. If there is a bright side, I was just reading the review of the new Honda Goldwing with more bling. Now tops out at 425kg imagine trying to stop that tipping over!
Good luck patching her up. |

The cowl is not replaceable. It is the bulk of the body. You need to have it banged out and repainted and that is not cheap, especially if it is the right because then you have to remove the gas tank which right under the right cowl. The leg shield beading is not easy to replace. Follow the instructions in the technical library for removing the glove box and then remove the lower part of the cowl that is plastic and then remove the screws for the floorboard on that side so that you can lift it up to install the beading. It is pretty finicky stuff so good luck.

I think what was scratched is the lower plastic part of the cowl that can be replaced, and replacing the beading is quite simple... No need to pay over priced labor charges from any shop to replace your beading...

You're in luck. What you've damaged is a plastic trim piece that is attached to the metal cowl. If your dealer can obtain the piece, it will take them about five minutes to swap it out.
P.S. It is a scientifically established fact that Modern Vespas accelerate faster, handle better, and stop harder better once they have their first ding. |
