Spider -where did you get your LV ?? cheapest I can find is £269. Hey I can cope with the same blue...hahahahaha I think what i'll do is add a few vintage white bits and a lambretta "splat" , F*** me I can see a few swear words coming on in total dissaproval from the trad boys.... in that case ..when we doing it.

France trip is an excellent idea, and I'd be very up for that, although for me it might be diff. to do it before Xmas.

From the few times I've been over, the tunnel is a great way to do it (they can nearly always fit you on if you turn up earlier/later than your planned crossing).

Lunch in Boulogne, combined with some stocking up on nice french food and booze at the hypermarket that's right next to the tunnel terminal (bring cargo nets and topboxes. Test the curry hook to the limit.) is an easy and unhurried day trip that I've done on my own before. I like the sound of Le Touqet instead, though. As placenames go, it sounds kind of exotic...

And it sounds great (from when I was following you). A good noise, but not F-Off loud, if you see what I mean.

Le Touquet it is then. It has a very long and lovely beach and some shops and s~~t.
I'm easy if it's this side of the New Year or the other. I just want to go with you all because you are all so lovely.
In the winter there will be plenty of availability on the tunnel so count me in.
Jim is right there is a lovely windy coastal road that runs from Sangate to Le Touquet and I think there are a couple of cheap WW2 museums on that road as well if anyone wants to visit.
Shall we make a few more pages out of trying to agree a date?
I'm sticking my neck out here but what about those 3 days between Christmas and the New Year ? No silly idea. Wkd it is then.

I'd wait until the end of Feb, maybe even the end of March. Even at that time with a 8:00 shuttle (which means a 05:30 start for me) we'd find the last 50 miles in France to be ridden in the dark, and another 90-100 miles for some of us when we get back this side of the Channel.

I've led the Londonbikers on two trips like this, each time with 70-odd bikes, it's over 360 miles round-trip for me. What did we do on Sunday? It was 120 miles for me. Multiply that by three...

i agree, let's wait a few months until there's a bit more daylight. i don't mind riding in the dark, but it's nice to see a bit of the countryside. plus with a longer waiting period the longer our planning thread is likely to get. who knows what kind of nonsense we'll spout if we're given that sort of lead time!

Agreed Feb/March 09. Here's a thought we could stay over in Framce somewhere cheap and ride for longer ?

UKMV trip to the Biker's Loft in Belgium? Two night stay? 250 mile ride on the middle day? I have just the ride to do it. 50ccs won't cut it though.

I quite like the idea of a day trip to France - at least for starters (can always do a weekend later). It always feels like a nice little chunk of snatched pleasure to visit another country just for lunch and shopping. Feb/March is a good time, especially if the weather gods are kind.

OK whatever weekend it is count me out of the weekend of the 13th-16th of March as I'm, already riding Wang Chung to Amsterdam.
However if anyone is feeling brave and fancies a trip to Bouloge between now and the New Year let me know co's I really fancy that.

when I bought Shirley I didn't know I was going to ride it anywhere other than work or my friends' houses! look what I got myself into!

Don't knock it. I noticed this morning that I'd done 100 miles since Sat morning on only half a tank of petrol, which is prolly a record for me, and can only be thanks to the pleasantly sedate pace of Saturday's rideout. So in my book, Shirley Mary's saved me a few quid

Granted I am but I have my reasons. When I was young and a bit stupid I was a dispatch rider and I think I used to cover about 55 - 60,000 miles a year on a beaten up CX500. I rode in every type of weather you could think of - rain,sleet,hail,thunder storms,snow,gales and minus 10 was my record so I think I've done my time . Most of my accidents have been on wet surfaces or diesel slicks so now I prefer not to when given the choice.
Yes I'm getting older and I'll admit it unnerves me when it's wet.

Well I was thinking of deleting williamvillage and calling myself Billy-no-scoot. 1 because it's quite funny but I do have Jim to thank for that name and 2 because it's ironic. I've yet to decide on that one.
As for the love for the GT I'll admit I'm not quite there yet probably because I've not ridden it any real distance to adjust to it's differences.
I found the ET far easier to ride especially in the corners and the brakes were alot better too. OK I know the GT is bigger and heavier but for a virtually new bike it doesn't brake that well.
I had a chat with Border about the way the GT's feel and he agreed with me that there is a lack of feedback about them which I didn't get with the ET. It feels inert and uninvolving so far.
I'll admit there is a certain amount of nervousness when I'm riding it because it's new to me and I'm just not sure what I can get away with but I'm sure I'll adjust in time. I'm just really unsure of it's parameters which I think is making me overide it to find them. This I know is very unwise because it leads to accidents.
Having said all that I love the way it goes off the line plus it's just so smooth and quite - it looks pretty stunning as well.
It will come in time I'm sure of that I just need more time on it that's all.
I'm planning some more miles on it this weekend so no doubt I'll be boring you all silly with what I'm learning as the miles pile up.
Oh yeah the slow speed wobble is a bit erm.........
