Oh don't be polite on my behalf.

I suspect a driver attempted to move it in order to park, and when they failed, it tipped over. They left it on its side. Crash bars saved the paint.

I live on a cul de sac which has no through traffic, and is the last road before the one way system kicks in. Hence very attractive to park in, and people do all sorts of stupid shit so they don't have to walk another four yards.

Scum, didn't you say you live in Hammersmith

Pulled up behind you and Mr wonder at the lights on way home on sat, has to be said that is one fine scoot.

Thanks 558. I am fighting to preserve it at the moment.

Mr WM suggested that I have some enemy neighbour who likes to tip it over, I find this unlikely because most people can't be bothered to be that deliberately horrible.

I like Hammersmith but since I have lived here I have had scooters tipped, vandalised and numerous things stolen. I do accept that London has its proportion of arses, but this is final straw. I will be moving to a suburban hell with a garage.

Just a little update on tonight's demo which I also posted on the other thread...

Seemed to be as big if not bigger than last time. We stopped the traffic for a long time on Park Lane, Haymarket and Picadilly. I left when it got a little bit silly at about 8.50 coming down Regent St onto Picadilly Circus - Shaftesbury Avenue toward Holborn was beckoning and it was beginning to get chilly. Saw one collision when a Mediterranean looking guy deliberately drove his LHD Range Rover into a biker in front of me as we sailed through a signal that was against us (which was pretty much par for the course). There was a little bit of an altercation and the driver of the RR regretted his temperament when confronted by angry biker. Not that anyone was gonna get anywhere any quicker. There was some lovely girl in a black rubber frock, who stood up at the front and took off her yellow vest to reveal a pink boob tube. It was only when she was in front of me later in the ride and stood up to wiggle her ass and reveal her touche that I realised she was wearing no knickers.

Mr Wonder Machine was there but we lost each other on the ride. Talking of WM, Kate has rechristened the SHitty. The Golden Shower performed beautifully throughout, except when the clutch got a little too hot and developed a horrible overheat judder. Not good for doing slow rolling road blocks but better than several big bikes that overheated and had to be pushed to the side. Missed you all, Kate I believe you are not feeling (self-induced) well; Charles we missed your dry wit; and Kam your loveliness. Genie was under curfew and Bill too far away. Maybe next time. An enjoyable evening. Westminster might start listening when the people start getting pissed off with us.

out of balance
Maver and Jim - I'm starting to think that you are right and I'm wrong about the vibration problem.
Now I think it may well be the tyres that are causing it because it's the only thing that's changed and I was pretty anal about the way the back end all went back together and lets face it a belt and rollers wouldn't have worn enough to cause it at 3000 miles.
So I'm going to take the wheels back out on Saturday and get them both balanced.
I mean what harm can it do ? At least I know it's not going to be them causing it.
All because the vibration is happening at certain speeds and certain loads of torque it doesn't mean it's coming from the engine and gearbox.
Hands up, I may have got this totally wrong.

Regards

Bill X

God damn, Wonder, you have had no luck with the Machine lately. Time to wire the frame up to the mains methinks.

I had to take the GP800 to the shop this morning because I couldn't undo a rusted bolt by myself. Am I the wimpiest wimp in Wimpsville, Wimpini or what?

Believe me they ride as good as they look. I'd buy the 300 but I want a brand new one.

I've got the wheels out of the Hornet to be balanced on Saturday and I'm looking at the spacer and thinking the spacer does infront of the flange washer but inside the locating plate /hanger doesn't it ? Then the nut and castleated nut with the split pin because that's the way I put it in the last time and it didn't seem to affect it if it went in wrong.

So it goes flange/spacer/plate/nut/castle nut/split pin ? Correct ?

Forgive me for checking but the vibration really was unsettling and I need to sort it soon if only in my head.

Bill X

You find that pic scary Genie ? For me that's the perfcet date.

Assuming it's the same as all other Piaggio bikes I've tinkered with, and that the parts diagram is indeed correct for once, only the conical spacer is 'inside' the hanger. Then the hanger goes on, then the thick washer/spacer, then the nut etc.

If the thick washer/spacer was on the inside, that might well account for the vibration. Check the bearing in the hanger is still OK!

No spacer or thick washer goes after the plate under the nut (nuts always hould have some sort of washer underneath - to protect that bearing in the exhaust plate), will check later but as Jim says I am sure this is the correct way.

reason
So my above order is correct ? If you mount the hanger without the spacer on it's inside- between the hanger and the flange there is a space where the spacer should be.

That's my logic.

I think we're all getting muddled in terminology here!

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

14 is the thick washer/spacer.
7 is the bearing.
15 is the conical spacer.

6 is called the 'suspension arm', referred to variously in this bit of bollocks as hanger, plate, and elsewhere incorrectly as swingarm.

on a side note, i believe the part referred to as the "conical spacer" is captive on the GTs

and i am one of the guilty party incorrectly referring to the suspension arm as a "swingarmexhausthangerthingy" however i do think folk know what i'm talking about when i use my bastardised term Laughing emoticon

agree
So the thick washer/spacer does go between the bearing in the hanger and the nut that holds the wheel in place then the castle-
ated nut goes on.

My brain hurts.

Bill X

Looking at Mavers picture the washer sits behind the nut but on the outside of the suspension arm hanger type thingy.

Looking at Jims picture it does the same - the washer/spacer sits between the bearing and the nut that holds the wheel in place.

Are we /I clear ? Thank you to both.

Kate, I'm so so sorry to hear about your scoot AGAIN!! aaaaaaggh
I have to say parking on the street is shite, on my street there's a bay at the bottom of the hill and when it's windy, the scoots tip on one another causing bowling effect, heartbreaking.

then another girl has a sky blue LX, parks on the street, it was brand new, now it's damaged on the side of the hill, I think the cars touch it like in your case, don't know that they would deliberately move the bike on my street

you need a place with a little cot for your lovely WM3!!

ahhhhh I saw the demonstration yesterday as I sat at the pub off baker street contemplating the record work I've done in record time - I'd just finished printing it off etc
I was so proud to have a helmet next to me in the pub, I felt like I belonged to a lovely group of individuals and that everyone in the pub wished they were part of the club too
I was pillion with Alex and still on the deadline so rode off home straight after the celebratory pint

I would if I had a digital camera but with your help I can now confirm that the washer/spacer does go behind the wheel nut on the outside of the hanger.
I can sleep now.
Alright hands up I'd located it on the inside which is why it all went a bit wrong and with any luck when it goes back together it should have gone but I've learnt something so I'm happy.
Jim the bearing is fine because it gooes round and around smoothly.

as a final touch maver you might want to think of getting a cover. i've noticed that the toerags (at least the london variety) enjoy simply farking with things that they know they can't steal - i've got a couple of legshield badges that showed signs of tampering until i slapped a cover on the Interloper. out of sight out of mind. well out of their tiny minds i hope.

By George I think you've got it.

Jim the bearing is fine because it gooes round and around smoothly.
I didn't think it would have suffered, but it would depend on how much 'vibration' you allowed to happen. Good job you appreciated 'something was up'.

I've done things up the wrong way before myself, luckily always managed to sort it out before confessing to anyone else.

All's well that ends well. And an easy fix to boot.

Thanks Jim. I've never had a problem admitting that I've got something wrong just as long as I've learnt something, be it about something or someone.

I only rode 75 miles with it in the wrong place and I only felt the vibes on my return journey from London. I've spun the bearing and it looks and feels undamaged.

Fingers crossed.

Ride safe
