I just bought a Shoei RF-1000 FF helmet (size large) and it doesn't fit in the pet carrier of my LX150. Does anyone out there know if this helmet fits in the Vespa-brand top case for the LX?

I like using my helmet hook on the LX. Why are people so in love with top cases??

I have a helmet lock on my BV500.

I have a top case as well and the reason I love mine is since it is my transportation to and from work I needed a place I could put my lunch and backpack for the trip to work that would keep my stuff out of the rain. Keep in mind I have very little room under my seat for anything.

As far as using the topcase instead of the helmet lock it is just easier to throw it in there and since my topcase has a remote lock/unlock it is easier than using the key on the helmet lock. Plus it keeps my helmet out of sight so people are tempted to do something stupid like cut the strap to steal it.

Topcases are really handy and I miss the handiness, but I prefer the look sans-a-case. Toughie!

What about homeless people setting your seat on fire to get at your helmet?

Dude my Scorpion Exo-400 (size L) just *barely* fits in my Vespa topcase.
You may want to confirm the fit before your purchase. Have you considered a Givi or other alternate case?

Okay, let me clarify . . . does anyone have an RF-1000 (in large) and an LX top case that they're able to fit the helmet into? I don't believe that the GT top case is the same size. I would think that there are others out there with an LX top case who also have this same helmet . . . and I'd like to know their experience with this. Thanks.

I have the shoei, my pal has the LX with the topcase, and I dont think it would fit. The LX topcase is really small.
Just try it at a dealer.
I never leave my helmet with the scoot, rgardless. Why doesnt anyone just carry their helmet inside?
I have to here in NYC, I just cant imagine why I couldnt just bring my helmet in.

Would it be possible for you to try your helmet in your pal's LX top case? One classic example of why I would *not* want to carry my helmet with me, is meeting someone at a restaurant. There's seldom a convenient place to put a helmet while going through a food line, or seated at a table. I am sometimes carrying a laptop case as well, so that's enough to lug around in these circumstances. My LX is garaged when home, so I'm not concerned about theft when it's unattended for long periods.

The RF1000 in small does fit in the LX top case. I also have a shark in small that will not fit sitting upright but will fit on it's side with the open side toward the front of the bike.

I have this Shoie RJ Platinum helmet and an LX with Vespa top case. The helmet fits in it with plenty of room to spare. I also have a (POS) TNT flip up style helmet which is bigger than the Shoie and it fits in there fine as well. I don't think you will have a problem.

My Shoie RF-1000 does not fit in the topcase (which I am considering removing) or under the seat. I usually carry it in the bag it came in, which has what amounts to two thick shoelaces strapped across my shoulders. It isn't comfortable after awhile but works for a short time. It's funny to walk around with it, bumping into people and for the first time in my life I have the sensation of having to deal with J-Lo butt. Razz emoticon

On a serious note, I did look into Pacsafe's Lidsafe http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php?_room=3&_action=detail&id=27 and am considering purchasing one. What I like is that it attaches to the whole scooter and can't be cut through. It's also waterproof. Though it rarely rains in SoCal, we recently had a thorough soaking and I saw several helmets filling with water. I want to find one locally so I can see if it can be hung from my helmet hook. Does anyone have one of these that will comment?

Still waiting to hear from someone who has the magic combination . . . the RF-1000 (in at least a large size) and an LX top case. I doubt that an ET top case is the same as an LX top case, and other helmets that are not the RF-1000 don't qualify for this test obviously. But thanks.

Sorry to pinch this thread but, bitty....save your cash, And if your helmet is the , D, ring type..use a spanner to go through it , then onto the studd under the seat, then put your helmet inside your helmet bag... this works just fine...and cost nothing...

I'm not sure if this will help you, I have an ET4 topcase. Same helmet as you have but in a medium and it fits fine with room to spare.

Steve,

Sorry not to be able to answer your question but I just remembered that Vespa Austin has several top cases on display in their store. Perhaps one is for a LX and you could try your helmet in them at the store.

Wouldn't hurt to give Thovas a call.
