I'm jealous cuz this looks so much better than the one for the 250/400.
What do you like about it? I was thinking of buying the Givi E52. It has a tail light option. I don't know if the Piagio does.

Re: Piaggio Topcase for 500
I like the non-bubble look of the 500 case. I personally have a Coocase S48 for my 250.

Just for info - the MP3 500 (Fuoco) case is a Shad case. Can be left unlocked, usefull if you never leave anything valuable in there, saves the 'sharks' from breaking it to bits.

The GP800 case is a Givi - it locks whenever it is shut, a RRPITA frankly, and such were the X9 top-boxes, although they had the saving grace of being more rectaungular and useful.

I live in New York, my friend. If you leave ANYTHING unlocked, you're asking for trouble.

Earlier, you asked why I think I need lights on my topcase. I figure that the more visibility I have, the safer I am.

Have you ever noticed how people drive these days. Talking on the phone without a "hands-free" unit is bad, but now people are texting while driving. I HOPE and PRAY that extra lights will get their attention. I fear what might happen when I'm on the highway and I have to stop short because of someone ahead of me. Will the a-hole behind me who's texting away brake in time? We see it everyday. Cars slam into each other from behind. I saw a three car pile-up today.
Sure would suck to get hit in the back on my MP3.

I think what JimC was saying was that by leaving it unlocked if you just have junk in it, at least the thieves won't tear your case to shred trying to break in and steal junk, but if you did want to lock it, you could. With other cases, I know it can be a real pain to unlock/lock each time you want to open the case, especially if you're just carrying dirty rags or other items not worth anything.

I get what you're saying. I was considering getting the CooCase. It has a remote that can set an alarm AND unlock the topcase.

Then I thought about getting the GIVI E52; you know, the real big case.

What do you think? Which would you choose?

Thanks

To tell you the truth I like the Piaggio top box for the 250/400. They are huge but if you need the space then great. If I had a 500 I would go with the Coocase for sure. I like the idea of the remote and alarm. But as I have the 250 I will be going for the Piaggio version as I need to have as much access to the trunk as possible and the Piaggio lifts up whereas neither the Givi nor the Coocase can. I stow my chair for soccer games under the seat and trunk. Plus I shop for a family of 4 and would like as much storage space as possibe when bringing home the groceries.

I plan on going with the Shad cases. They make a bunch MORE than just the ones they make for Piaggio. In my opinion, you're better off going direct with them. You can get a color matched shad case that is glossy and nice and comes with back seat, brake lights, and is very nice for 250$, half what they charge through Piaggio. It's the same case. But, they go all the way up to 50L too...check these out and compare prices. You'll see that for the quality and colors and options, they're hard to beat(Shad, not just this site)...

P.S. they make great sidecases too, and as soon as I can figure out how to rig a side mount for them, I'm going to get them too.

If I had a 500, and didn't want to sissy it up with a plastic top case but still wanted storage, I'd go with this top case & sidecases

I just think it suits the 500 better. But it is pricey.

I bought a Shad case because I knew they made the cases for Piaggio. Be advised you will have to devise a way to mount it as the hardware supplied doesn't work with the 500's "rack". Apparently the hardware is a Piaggio exclusive. I got the 42L.

Yes I like the aluminum for durability though costly...but has anyone attached any of these to a MP3. The sideracks and their fittings kit I found (from Germany) are specific to the Givi E21 cases but would love to be able to put different cases on them.

Givi 52L top
I had the dealer install the Givi Maxia 52 liter topcase, and use it for work and errands. The handle pops out when you want to carry it like a suitcase, which is useful when I tote paperwork back and forth from work. Very slick, and well worth it. But then again, I don't believe in skimping on quality toys. Laughing emoticon

have yet to run out of space in my topcase, so have no urge to get a side case...should it come to that, I prefer the toploading sidecases 8)

Curious - they have a "TraX to Givi Adapter Kit" - anyone know if this will work with the Givi E710 MP3 500 adapter plate, or otherwise have fitted one of the TraX top boxes?

Coocase also seems to make a Givi adapter for the S48 - anyone know if this will fit the Givi E710 plate?

Just to add another case to the mix being discussed.

I've been spending sometime over at advrider.com and kept coming across people discussing "jesse cans", so I decided to look it up. Seems like it is these guys http://www.jesseluggage.com/

They look really nice, maybe we can get enough interest going that he would be willing to make a rack system to fit his luggage to the MP3. Anyone in Arizona want to go bug Jesse?

Nice looking luggage...I'm afraid to ask the price...everything on there said to call under the Price column.

Indeed, the Jesse cases are good looking, though it appeared at first glance like they're actually out of/not selling top cases right now.

I went to the International Motorcycle Show in San Mateo today, and the guys from Twisted Throttle had set up a booth! Among other things, the very nice gentleman staffing it had just received an email confirming successful fitment of a Coocase S48 on the Fuoco/MP3 500, on top of the rack mount sold by Givi. They are also getting a new plate mounting in for the TraX cases which he thinks will likely work in concert with the Givi mount.

I have the E-52 on my 500 with the Givi rack on top. It looks very proportioned on the scoot. I have, but have not installed the lights yet. I also installed the soft bach rest.

The Mother of All Topcases - New Givi E55
Interestingly, the Givi guys at the show also referred to a new E55 case which is already apparently out in the UK (to be released in early Spring in the U.S.), which is even bigger, holding two XXL helmets and assorted other stuff at the same time. It features a new remote release and brake lights as well - check it out here.
