I think it would be great fun just 'owning' and above all 'riding' a vintage large-frame motorscooter too!

I am on to this fully original Sprint Veloce, blue original paint
3500 km (2000 miles) on, original (Dutch) registration from 1978.

As I both want the vintage looks AND a proper riding scoot, this looks a good choice.
PX is just a bit too 'modern' and everything on > 10" wheels and without rotary engine would be less suitable...

PS: At this point I've bought it...small pimping project in winter and off we go!

Good point, if I would save just a little more money, maybe I could afford the orange Rally 200...but the color would match my collection 8)

Minus on the blue Veloce are the 'modern' non-script Vespa badges. But with the double P logo it is OK for a 'seventies' scoot.
Also the hideous footpegs / protection iron. Two holes are drilled in the floorboard for these.

But maybe I should steal both

So true, Eric.

As (sunday) riding the scoot is important to me and not having a museum item, I guess this would be a nice choise.
I know I could have a comparable P200 for riding. This would be half the price, maybe 2/3 in top condition...but still a PX

I did find your recommandion on bikes to ride:

6) Rally 200 or Rally 180 ( a tie for the folks who like the more vintage looking 180 vs the speed / autolube / electronic ignition of the 200cc)
other notables:
GL150, Sprint Veloce

Actually, there might be a Rally 180 (same original TOP condition, but in fact more expensive) and a Rally 200 (fair condition so more restore costs) in discussion too. Life can be so cruel...

But I think the blue Veloce would make a nice comprise / investment for my needs and means.
(I just love the '70 blue, goes well with the '71 special too).
A suitabable compromise for price/investment between low-end PX and top-end Rally 180/200

Sprint V's have a 3-port 150cc engine, so you bolt on just about any kit that would go on a PX125 or PX150 ... Malossi 166, Pinasco, Polini, DR, etc. It's a really nice starting point for an engine.

This bike is probably preferable to the Rally 180 if you want to have a 'go-fast' bike. The only thing the rally 180 has over this bike is rarity, legshield glovebox, cache', and the spare under the cowl. Other than that, they both have the same electrical system, the same crappy front fork. The rally 180 is a little faster off the bat, but i think you have more tunability options with the Sprint V. A lot of things about the rally 180 are SPECIFIC to the rally 180, making it a pain-in-the-ass. ( crankshaft, etc )

I have been told that the Indian Baja Chetak is mostly an exact copy from the Sprint Veloce...so just about every aftermarket thing would fit

I know the P-series have a much improved front fork, but that is just how it is...
Both the Rally 180 and Rally 200 would be considerably more expensive in the 'condition'pond I am fishing.
Rarity and front glove box are not that high on my list...value for money is

I wouldn't go taking that as a compliment. It's like someone telling you that you look like Corky from "Life Goes On". ( remember that show? Ahh...memories...like the corners of my mind )

Still, yeah ... Sprint V is a fine bike... and that one has the big Euro headset on it. It's fast for it's displacement, parts readily available, and it's not asian. How can you go wrong?

Maybe find a PK fork over there and throw it in it sometime later on if you want to upgrade the front brakes and suspension.

Mmmmm....tempting...but DO NOT THINK SO

The best part of this bike is that it is 100% original and unrestored!
I know it might not be the most 'rare' there is, not the fastest, not the best looking (ugly back light / scripts)...but original!

I might even be tempted getting an different 125 rear light too...

Instead of buying that hunk, you could do better by building a FALC or M1 motor for your 50. Twice as fast, and twice as good looking as that Rally wannabe.

I guess you like smallframes more than largeframes, Tony
However, the 50 Special is best when he stays original too...

It would make a nice 'Quartetto Italiano' having all the primary colors together (Red, Yellow, Blue and White). Lasting Black for the French Velosolex

I'm thinking along similar lines - if I can scrape the cash for a third bike, it's got to be white and match the Italian flag. The wife wants a scoot - thinking an S. But I've got the vintage bug now, so maybe a nice white GS...

Yes - but then my reason (or excuse ) for building out the fleet is moot. Nope, need more scoot, so the tricolore goal may still be a bit down the road.

BTW - I love the blue Sprint - v. nice. I'm with Eric - buy it!

For the reason I don't have a car....
Guys always seem to compensate for things they DO NOT have.

But thanks all for the remarks, as this scooter will not be like buying just a 'hotdog around the corner' it is nice to see the scoot is considdered reather COOL 8)

Honestly, I wasn't sure if I could get over the looks from the rear light and the '70 scripts
But the more I look at how the original looks on adds, the more I start to like it.

And since Eric states it is a very suitable runner too, I have just one hurdle to take...

He DID...check Which Vintage Vespa is the most lust worthy or sought after?

1) GS150 VS3/4/5
2) GS160 mk1
3) GS160 mk2
4) SS180
5) GS150 VS5
6) Rally 200 or Rally 180

I really should amend that list. I would NEVER choose to ride a GS150 VS3/4/5 over an SS180.

And it seems like lately the GS160's and Ss180's have been commanding higher prices than the GS150 VS3/4/5s.

If you do so Eric, please also promote the Sprint Veloce from 'other notables' to at least 6th place 8)

You know - i wrote my post earlier wrong. Must have been the lack of coffee. I said i would never choose a GS150 over an SS180 ... that's the opposite of what i meant. The SS180 is superior to the GS150 in every possible way.

Anyways, i edited my comment and your quoting of it

My "other notables" would account for any single 150cc or less scooter with a 3 port engine, and failing that, 125cc with a three port.

However, Pinasco announced the other day that there would be a new 177 cast-iron kit they were releasing specifically for 2-port engines. This would make it the first kit i'm aware of that was designed specifically for 2-port engines (unline the DR177, which can be mounted on 2 or 3 port engines, but not specifically designed for the 2-ports so much as just 'compatible' ).

Anyways, that's a pretty big deal, and will make for some interesting tests after the kit has been officially released and some people are running it.

Indeed I was confused by the VS3-VS4-VS5 part already 8)
Redcatjack will be very, very pleased to read that.

For me, it might be interesting to know possibilites to convert from 3-port 150cc to 3-port 125cc
Technically I guess this is no problem with all the kits.

Reason for this could be a law to permits riding 125cc motorbikes with a ordinary car license.
In that case the Sprint could be re-registered (maybe...?) to a 125 engine and this means that the wife could jump on the Vespone and shift away (mmmm....guess not )

The Sprint V is a fantastic bike.
I've had mine for 15 years almost bone stock (added a sebac shock last year and a sito pipe 2 years ago).

I would consider the front suspension and braking upgrade though, especially if you've been riding modern_vespa's at all. I haven't done it yet myself due to funds, but I'm just a lottery ticket away.

Are there any pictures from your Veloce around here, Cipote?

OK, I am convinced about the Sprint Veloce...I'll buy the blue one instead of the orange one

oh man... you have a chance to buy that beautiful rally 200 and you're passing?
Laughing emoticon Laughing emoticon Laughing emoticon Relax Eric, just a teaser...the owner definitely wants too keep it. It is in 100% original condition and shape. Actually the Sprint was for keeping too, as they both make a nice 70 era pair. But since the Rally is more rare than the Veloce, the 'bene blu' is negotiable.

But I actually am skipping a cheaper P200 and a more expensive Rally 180 . As I said before, life can be cruel
PS: Still nice pictures together

OK, I did it The 150 Sprint Veloce has changed ownership!

"Do you smell that? Two-stroke, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell two-stroke in the morning"
Just listen to the sound of the two-stroke engine...
