If you can't get a spot to take the MSF basic rider course at a Virginia community college, there's a new option in the Orange area:

I'm nothing to do with these guys, but the instructor is the same guy that instructed on my MSF course and he was really good. It looks like he has started his own business and although it costs more than the MSF course run through my local community college, it's considerably less than some others in the area.

Another option takes place at certain Harley dealer's -- Rider's Edge. They do new rider and advanced courses. New riders use supplied bikes (Buell), advanced riders bring their own.

In VA the courses are in Staunton, and Prince George. It's even in the UK, but just one, in Builth Wells (Wales I believe).

I got my endorsement (that is to say a certificate which when presented to the DMV resulted in the actual endorsement) this past July from H-D in Florida. It was thorough and a lot of fun. I have no connection with the course or H-D, just a happy customer. Oh, and it was not a big sales pitch -- it's the MSF course expanded upon, and technique and safety were paramount.
