Modern Vespa

I'm leaving the ranks of the dreamers and lurkers and joining the posters because I got my first Vespa this past weekend. After months of watching Craigslist (and seriously considering buying new... which I probably would have done if the local dealers had any stock) I found the deal of a lifetime on Craigslist: a 2007 LX150 in mint condition with only 312 miles on the odo and a few hundred dollars worth of brand new accessories for a total of $2750!

The scooter was garage kept, never fully broken in, and has yet to have its first service. It is cosmetically absolutely perfect, and the only mechanical problem I've found (at least so far), was a tankful of stale gas that had it starting hard and running rough. Draining the tank and running 20 miles with a tank full of fresh gas with some Seafoam added has taken care of that successfully.

I've been riding a kitted 2002 2-stroke Yamaha Vino Classic for the past two years, and have put 5K miles on it. Even though I had beefed up the tires and suspension to better handle my 225 lb. bulk -- and the 72 cc Vino is reasonably quick for what it is -- the LX makes it seem like a toy by comparison. I'm one happy camper.

I saved enough money on the purchase to allow me to buy all new gear and some goodies for the bike. I've got crash bars, a flyscreen, and a front rack on order already.

(My LX 50 is silver, although you can't really tell with the pic I took with the cellphone & limited lighting in our parking garage - I like the sepia like effect though)

That's awesome, what a great deal! I've seen ET4s with no accessories and plenty of miles sell for more than that.

About the only thing that can make buying a new Vespa even more satisfying is paying much less than you expected. Congrats!

I think they take away any definition on the scoot i have a Black Vespa GTS and it just shows every detail i think the silver vespa makes it look like an average scooter. . . and the newer vespa's like GT/GTS/LX etc have very nice Silver bits and bobs and they show amazingly with any colour other than SILVER. Just thought it had to be said. . .I still think it looks gorgeous though vespa is vespa after all . . . . as long as it isnt Piaggio's other creation APRILLA. .. BOOO.

I see you are in Annapolis.

I bought an ET4 with similar mileage and some extra stuff for a similar price from a guy on Riva Road back in 2003. Put 19k on it before selling it. Great times. Enjoy.

Annapolis is a great town for scooters. The city government has recently put in free scooter parking areas in the downtown area, and there are lots of nice twisty two-lanes in the surrounding suburbs so you can have fun getting most anywhere without feeling the need to jump on a freeway.

One of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon is riding around Governor's Bridge, St. Stephen's Church, Rutland and St. George Barber roads, among others.

You got it!... great scooter or sports car roads. The scooter helps me forget how much I miss my mid-life crisis Miata.
