Scooters need them. But no one I've seen makes them for the sizes Vespas use.

I think you'll find most are dual-compound. Michelin Pilot Sport/City and Gold Standard certainly are, as are Pirelli Scooter Diablo/Sport.

I'm reasonably sure the Heidenaus are, too. My german is a bit rusty, but one of the early reviews talked about that.

How about a radial scooter tire? I've been told that the Michelin boppers are one of the few tires that are actually radial tires? I was suprirsed to hear that.

I was thinking about a center tread that outlasted the wear beyond center tread. Is that what you guys mean? If that's the case I'd hate to find out how short the would last otherwise.

Some do - it depends how you ride! Rear tyres wear most under acceleration, front tyres under braking. If you always accelerate gently on the straights, but hoon it round the curves, you'll get very even tyre wear.

I was amazed at how even my rear tire wore. Now that I am getting use to it I think the new one will wear even better. I like leaning hard in the turns.

Heh, quoting myself. Couldn't find the original review that talked about the "wizards" that formulated the rubber compounds. I did a bit of homework, and as far as I can tell it's only the Heidenaus Snowtex tires that are dual compound, and they're not recommended for extended riding on dry roads.

If there is a marking on the tire sidewall that indicates a letter "R" before the size of the rim, then it can be classified as a radial tire construction. Example, 130/70R12.
