Modern Vespa

Well done to our admins for taking down a thread that most people did not even get to see.

I believe the fast action was warranted because there was not one single reference to Vespa, Piaggio or any other two-wheeled manufacturer in it, so an absolute waste bites on a server! And worst of all, NSR was missing in the topic, causing me to waste 20 seconds of my life... (Note to self: Read Topics)

I think I see the connections between the server slowing down and the admins sweating a bit....

yeah dammit, I'm curious about the post now too. I should preface by saying it sounds like I am glad it was pulled so it didn't waste my time. But now you got my interest piqued.

I belong to over a dozen forums from automotive, travel, photography, watches, computers, engineering, and motorcycles.
Most have an Off Topic forum where I enjoy spending time discussing issues with others with whom I share a particular passion.

Any thoughts of just having an 'anything goes' Off Topic forum here?

Many forums have the option of supporting the forum annually ($5-20) and getting a special avatar or something, which I am sure offsets the bandwidth costs.

Thoughts?

I am guessing that based on the timing of this thread and the one in the graveyard that he is referring to the political thread that was pulled. As you know, politics are off limits here, so one of my fellow moderators pulled it.

This is it. (And one reason why MV thrives.)

That's been discussed several times before. Jess likes the idea of keeping things this way because of a number of reasons including that it keeps the general discussion from becoming a stale version of the technical forum in which you can actually post.

This has come up numerous times in the past and Jess has made it clear that he does not want to start such a forum here.

Too bad in a way.
There are many smart people here from various backgrounds and open discussion on a variety of topics would be something I would greatly enjoy.

Regardless, I sure enjoy the free knowledge I gain here!

We're certainly free to PTW talk it up... or many other topics for that matter. I've even shared info about my icecream machine here that I was restoring (and took some fake orders )...

I think we should remove that redundant thread earlier in the day that was an age poll. What idiot would start a thread that has already been taken time and time again!!!

The poster of the political screed in question (fat rat) was summarily banned from the forum, forever. No warnings, no second chances.

The idea that you anyone would post such a ridiculous smear against any political candidate in a place like MV just makes my blood boil.

I like that you don't tolerate politics. And it's also good that you have this as a more 'anything goes' type forum.

It's very smart because if the general discution forum MUST be on the topic of scooters, the members will invariably want another forum for off-topic. The problem with this is that off-topic forums are almost always far too off-topic. It just becomes a place to post random crap, and an environment like that is a recipe for trouble. Arguments break out, etc.

Having General Discussion as a less strict forum means that the posters don't feel that they have to operate under specific guidelines, but still encourages them to keep generaly to the topic of these forums: vespa/scooter/piaggio/...some other things/age ^_^

Really, if you're going to be super strict, the MP3 forum would have to be removed.
