He's a three year old American, I think it would be the same for European models but you'd have to have someone else check to be sure.

Well, I figure since he's inside a bungee would suffice. But I'm no lawyer...

Maybe you could put a DOT sticker on the seat visible when closed to satisfy any cops.

So can you fit a laptop (in a shoulder carrying case) and thick rain pants in the 500 trunk?

Depends on the size of the lap top.

If you have an ultraportable, there should be no problem. The compartment is about 14" wide, which would accommodate most laptops, but not necessarily most laptop bags (not mine, for example). The length, front-to-back, should handle anything as far as laptops go. The compartment's lack of depth is the biggest problem, in general, but won't be for a laptop & rain pants, even if they're thick.

Actually, there is a surprising amount of storage space under the seat of the MP3-500. This first picture is with all of the "stuff" that I normally carry under the seat, with the addition of my HP Pavilion DV6105 17" laptop.



This picture shows all of the "stuff" that was in the bike now laid out on the cover on the trunk of one of my cars. Here you see, clockwise starting in the upper left, the laptop, a bag that has an assortment of tools and supplies, the MP3 owners manual, a "ditty bag" with a complete set of FrogTogs rain gear in it, 4 bungee cords, a bag with all of the legal papers and a bunch of other miscellaneous "stuff", an umbrella and a few MP3 brochure. You will notice in the first picture that I could stuff even a few more things in there.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I carry a mac book everyday in a case under the seat of my 250. I've got these thick rain gear pants that I put under my seat on the way to work and wear on my cold night ride home. Still not sure if they'd fit in the 500 with the mac book but that just means I'd have to wear them to and from. I can adjust because....

I'm lusting for a demon black 500 now.
