Hey all,

I'm going to be purchasing and rebuilding a vintage Vespa, haven't decided on a year/model yet, but what I want to do is really set it apart with the metal work, giving it a great steampunk appeal with copper and brass, but my concern is mainly with the strength and longevity of these metals on a Vespa. I want to to the trim and accents in copper and the breaks, kickstart lever and switches in brass.

Is brass going to be too soft for a kickstart lever? And will I need to worry about the weight of these metals? As far as tarnishing is concerned I know there are metal lacquers I can obtain so that I'm not too concerned about.

Thoughts?

depends on the alloy but in general brass is stronger and harder than aluminum. You should be fine with brass in the clutch and break levers. As for the kickstart my only concern would be the weight but you may be able to make it work.
