This started immediately after I changed my gear oil...

Scooter starts and runs fine. Shifts from N to 1 fine, but when I take off I get this "jingling" sound. Sounds like loose change bouncing around in the engine. I'm assuming this isn't good. Gets louder the faster I go.

Also, when in Neutral if I roll the bike, engine off, it makes a noise I haven't hear before. Like a gear winding, noise. Like it's not completely in Neutral. Although the bike doesn't seem any harder to push.

My complete lack of experience and knowledge says "clutch" to me.

gets louder the faster you go? man ...that's really strange. Most engine noises i have get covered up by the sound of the exhaust and wind and stuff at higher speeds ... i have to listen carefully with my helmet off at low speeds.

What kind of gear oil did you use?

Perhaps the noise just gets "faster" not "louder".

First I used SAE 30 5W-30 then I figured this was wrong. I drove the bike probably 6 miles with this. That's when the nosie started. I then changed it out after I got some straight SAE 30, it's Mobil brand.

Hmmm...maybe that's your problem and that the gears weren't lubed right and higher temps? I like Motul Transoil full synthetic 10w30...shit is the best.

maybe by using a detergent oil, you broke some crud from the inside of the engine loose and it's now rattling around in there?

Do you have a magnetic drain plug? If it is metal filings, that might help reduce the problem?

Have you changed your oil since? If not, try that, and see if there is anything that comes out with the oil.

Your oil most likely is not the problem...just a coincidence.

Could be cush gear springs....could be something completely unrelated like a loose exhaust clamp.

I had a broken cush gear gear spring that rattled for 3 years in my 79 P2 motor without ever causing a problem.
Just fucking annoying.

Drain your oil as suggested & look closely at what comes out.
Look for metal shavings, chunks of gear teeth,etc..

You will have to climb around the bike sans helmet & listen very closely for where it comes from while pushing the bike around.
Good luck.
